We've been flooded with awesome news lately, from Super Bagman for the Commodore Amiga, to the overhauled Kung Fu Master on the Amstrad and Stunt Car Racer for the Apple II. Well we are going over to the C64 for some gaming news, as thanks to Saberman contacting us recently, he has told us that the 1994 game of 'Penguin Tower' has been recovered and released. A game that was in development by Jani Hirvo, and thought lost for all time when Jon Wells tried to make an arrangement with the coder to distribute the game in the UK and sell across Europe back in the 90's.
Bertie’s Animal Kingdom - A rather rare Amiga game has been recovered for all to enjoy
A great piece of news has just hit our inbox, as we've recently been informed by our good friends Games that Weren't, that GTW together with Darryl Sloan and Ivan S have made available the rather rare educational title of Bertie’s Animal Kingdom for the Commodore amiga. As in the words of Games that Weren't "Our next entry is for a title which may well have been released, but in very low numbers, due to being quite late into the Amiga 1200’s life and an educational title (further limiting its potential audience)".
Scramble Infinity - An incredible version of a 1980's classic which is coming to a C64 near you soon!
I was just thinking to myself could this day get any better for the C64, and going by the latest update from Games That Weren't, it just has! Welcome to a new side scrolling Shoot 'em up for the C64 called 'Scramble Infinity'; A game which not only features amazing graphics and coding by Mirage(link), but going by what we know so far from the C64 community, the game has finally been finished after disappearing off the face of the Earth way back in 2009 when development was supposed to have started.
Worron - Unreleased Firebird C64 game available and fixed after 34 years!
For those of you following the news back in 2015, GTW had announced that Firebird's Worron was recovered after 30 years, although not finished, it was a C64 game that was originally developed by Richard Paynter as a sort of top down challenge based Arcade game. Well fast forward to May just gone, and as a surprise to the C64 community, Richard Paynter got in touch with Games That Weren't, that he had finally fixed and upgraded his game of 'Worron'; A game you can download today and see what you were missing out on all those years ago.
Blork - A fantastic albeit unfinished game found by Games That Weren't for the Amiga 500
Chances are if you had an Amiga, you would've enjoyed the many Shoot em ups released on that well loved computer, such as Project X, Banshee and the latest ones released such as Reshoot and our personal favorite Inviyya. Well as a complete surprise to us and what looks to be a rather special game indeed, Saberman has done a video of an unreleased game called 'Blork'; a very stylish underwater shooter created by the demo group Scienide around the mid-late 90s.
Green Thang - An unreleased action platformer sees the light of day for the Amiga! (Prototype)
If the recently announced Theme Park game coming to the C64 wasn't enough to whet your appetite, then how about this piece of news sent to us by Saberman. As we've just been told that our good friends 'Games That Weren't' have released a playable prototype of the unreleased Amiga game 'Green Thang'; a game that was meant to be released to compete and surpass games such as Zool and B.O.B but never saw the light of day... Until now.
Chuck Rock - Another C64 Game that Wasn't... Case Closed!
One of my favourite pieces of news to do write ups on are the reports from "Games That Weren't" ... A dedicated investigative news website which delves into the histories of C64 games. Especially ones which were either left unfinished, or mysteriously vanished at some point, usually between magazines' reviews, and actual release day. Last year saw some high profile Hi-Tec and Warner Bros games, not only found, but also restored and finished to a playable level, for everyone to enjoy. And on 12th Jan another exciting story surfaced, as they announced to have found a fully working and completable version of popular Amiga platformer Chuck Rock (Core Designs).
Daffy Duck And The Great Paint Caper - C64 game recovered and released today!
As to my utter amazement we've just learnt of the release of a fantastic C64 platformer game originally by Hi-Tec in 1992 that never saw the light of day, until now! After 18 years worth of searching by Games That Weren't, they are proud to announce the fully recovered 'Daffy Duck - And The Great Paint Caper' which scored a massive 95% review from Zzap 64. Also according to GTW this game was to be one of Hi-tec's first premier range titles making great use of a recent licence agreement with Warner Bros. However all was not well as the game never appeared on the shelves, especially with Hi-Tec going under. But today the game is finally here, as according to Onslaught who have big fixed, added a trainer and more, they've released the Holy Grail of C64 games, Daffy Duck +3DS!
