The golden age of Commodore 64 gaming is getting a modern, social makeover. Twitch streamer Andrew Hayes, the mind behind C64-Cade, has officially pulled back the curtain on C64-Live, a groundbreaking platform that transforms the legendary Commodore 64 into a real-time, multiplayer experience directly in your web browser. The platform allows a host to launch a C64 session on a remote server and stream it instantly. From there, a second player can jump into the action from anywhere in the world.

Chopper Command (C64) - Final version will be released tonight [ RELEASED DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE ]
Indie Retro News have been given the heads up that Chopper Command is currently in the process of being released, and will be available to download this evening. Final bug testing was completed this week after we helped Beta test the game live on Twitch. It was streamed on my twitch channel at hayesmaker64 and together with eagle eyed viewers we spotted a number of small descrepencies between the Atari 2600 original and the C64.

Parasol Stars C64 is in development and it looks fantastic!
One of C64s most heart breaking stories - a fully completed and faithful Commodore 64 port of Parasol stars was lost forever when the developer - Colin Porch's wife destroyed all his disks in an argument. The story was the subject of an infamous cover up, reported by Ocean and Zzap magazine as a burglery, but has recently been covered in great detail by Games that Weren't and Commodore Format which I recommend you read more about if you haven't already.
Could the story have a final twist in the tale? As yesterday Doc Cosmos developer Simon Jameson has revealed he has been working on his own port of Parasol Stars, and has even shown off some early demo footage for us all.

C64 GOTY Winner Announcement!
2018 was such a great year for C64, and I'm sure it'll keep getting better in 2019. Recently we published a fab list of game releases both physical and download games, and the list is crammed full of awesome games. In the article I published my list of nominees for Game of the Year, and last week I announced the winner live on Twitch.

High Noon - Early C64 Western with extras from Hokuto Force
Back in 2015 when I joined Indie Retro News, there weren't so many brand new C64 games being released, so we used to fill our blog with news from the various cracking groups. I particularly liked Hokuto Force's releases because they focused on re-releases of those lesser known titles that most of us probably missed the first time around. Hokuto Force never stopped, but recently our C64 news has focused more on all the new and recent releases which are coming so fast, I feel like we've kind of deserted the "sceners", who pretty much kept the C64 alive for many years single handed with a constant stream of games and demos. So I thought I'd check out Hokuto Force's latest release (in collaboration with Mad Hackers Inc.): A new version of Ocean's 1984 Western shooter: High Noon. So let's take a look and see how it plays.

C64 Weekly Roundup - Exiting new projects, more amazing sound tricks and more!
Welcome to roundup #8. This week has seen more amazing project announcements, also FM-YAM a new sound device built into a C64 cartridge, and Hokuto Force have worked their magic on a few forgotten gems. I will also shamelessly plug my own channel, as I am making a brand new C64 SEUCK game for The New Dimension's 2018 SEUCK compo, in collaboration with my viewers, live on TwitchTV.
C64 Roundup is back - The Mini is here, all the new games and new projects
Hello folks, and welcome to Indie Retro News' C64 Roundup Weekly. I've been on holiday in Japan, so I'll try to cover everything you might have missed while I've been away over the last couple of weeks. Firstly, Japan was amazing. I mixed a sight seeing tour de force of all the Tokyo shrines, temples, landmarks etc, with visits to the Taito, Sega and Namco Arcades. Also the amazing (but overpriced) retro game shops of Akihabara, Tokyo and Den-Den Town, Osaka. The Cherry Blossoms were in full bloom and I got some high scores on Gradius and RType... at least for a full 10 minutes before some old dude decided to complete Gradius after I got off it! Photos on my Instagram, link below.
Unless you've been living on the Moon, you'll know the big news is the arrival of Retro Games LTD TheC64 Mini. There have also been a ton of new games in development announcements and a couple of corking new releases.

C64 Roundup Weekly - New games, and early game pics, just another week on the C64
Welcome to a slightly late weekly roundup. The good news is the extra delay has allowed us to announce the awesome new cartridge release of MAH (RGCD). Also we've seen 2 brand new C64 game releases from The New Dimension and Picaro Games. Reset's Craptastic games competition gets under way, and we've spotted a couple of early teaser graphics from future C64 games.
C64 Roundup Weekly - All the latest from the current world of the biggest and best 8 bit machine.
Hi and welcome to the second instalment of my C64 weekly roundup. All the latest C64 news compiled into one weekly article of news. This week we've got new game announcements, new game releases, new C64 music and utilities. There is so much going on on the C64 right now, we might have to start doing these daily!
C64 Weekly Roundup - Ultimate-64, 4KB Crappy Games, IK Ultimate and more!
Hello and welcome to what I hope I can make a regular fixture here at Indie Retro News. As new C64 games, scene releases, hardware, competitions and general C64 news become more and more frequent, it's becoming harder to cover everything which goes on in individual postings. So I'm going to try and wrap up everything in one weekly post, so it should be easier to stay on top of the latest goings on. Of course if anything major comes in, we'll still feature breaking news stories separately.
Crazy Cars 3 - Interesting C64 EasyFlash release from Excess... 25 years later.
1992 was a depressing year for C64 owners... Their friends were beating the crap out of each other in arcade perfect ports of Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat on the SNES. Their other friends were playing Co-op multiplayer Alien Breed on the Amiga, and their other friends were zipping through blazing fast platforming nirvana in Sonic on the Megadrive. But hey it wasn't all bad... at least we didn't have PCs with CGA purple graphics and bloopy motherboard noises. Releases were still being produced for the now decade old 8 bit microcomputer, like this one from Titus Software, continuing their original Lamborghini Diablo racing franchise. But I guess by this point all the best developers had moved onto bigger things, as the C64 port for Crazy Cars 3, was quite frankly as dull as dishwater. This hilarious Zzap / Commodore Force review from issue #92 sums it up brilliantly.
