Henry's House - The first of many 8bit to Amiga games via 8bit2amiga gets a release

The Amiga gets another mention for Monday, as trawling through the Amiga Facebook group, Marecheck has announced that Henry's House has been converted over to the Amiga as the first release prior to other upcoming 8bit to 16bit conversions by 8bit2amiga. For those of you who haven't heard of the game before, Henry's House is an eight level platform game which was originally released on the C64 and then ported to Atari 8-bit machines.

Chiller 2 - HOT NEWS as a new C64 game based on Chiller, originally by Mastertronic is released

If your C64 is feeling the need for even more games, then we've just been told by a good friend of ours, that a new game has been released that should bring even more excitement to C64 users across the globe. It's Chiller 2 by Andy! This new game released just recently, is a rather cool looking game that is based on the classic of 'Chiller': a game that was released way back in 1984 by MasterTronic featuring multi-level, multi-screened platforms through 10 levels created by The Darling Brother's.

Rogue +6DGM - A nice C64 roguelike fixed and fully playable by Hokuto Force

Moving on from all the tasty game jams we now look towards the C64, as Hokuto Force have released an enhanced, fixed, trainered and fully playable version of 'Rogue', which was originally released in the 1980's for the Amstrad CPC, C64 and ZX Spectrum under the Mastertronic Label, with other versions for the Amiga, DOS, Macintosh, TOPS-20, TRS-80 CoCo and Unix. Regarded as a turn-based dungeon crawling roguelike, you are an adventurer that must explore the Dungeons of Doom, to retrieve the precious Amulet of Yendor!

The Mastertronic Archives - The history of Mastertronic budget games needs your help!!!

Only just last month Indie Retro News did a big feature for Player One Book's big Kickstarter crowd funding campaign for ' The Mastertronic Archives - The Ultimate Mastertronic Collector's Guide '. Both a standard volume and enhanced collectors volume were mentioned, detailing the history of the fantastic 8bit budget range such as KANE, Kikstart, Finders Keepers, One Man and his Droid, and many more. Basically if you were a gamer in that era, with an Amstrad, C64 or ZX Spectrum, the Mastertronic range were at the top of their class. But so far with all that said, it still isn't a Kickstarter success, and with 70 hours to go, and only $28,897 pledged of a $33,000 goal, they need your help!

Scout +5DGH - Hold onto your woggle, another C64 release from Hokuto Force!

Back in the day, I was in the Scouts, and remember plenty of arguments over the camp fire over whose 8-bit computers were better (C64 Obviously!). This game is nothing to do with those Scouts though, this is a sci fi blaster from 1988, developed by Reptilia Design and published by Mastertronic. Set in a hostile star system, you find yourself in bad shape following a disastrous hyperspace jump which has left you lost and ship wrecked. Your last hope is to salvage what you can from the damaged starship by piloting your scout ship across 8 hostile planets' surfaces to find the missing parts to your ship. Which would be hard enough even without the entire planets' inhabitants deciding to greet you by trying to destroy you.

When I was just a wee lad, I used to go into town and into a shop called Forbouys, it was packed to the brim with newsagent items, but more especially gaming magazines and classic 8-bit tapes. You know the ones, the Amstrad, C64 and ZX Spectrum, all stacked neatly against each other on the shelf, priced between £1.99 and £4.99. It was such a fantastic time for a kid of that era, and it is the Mastertronic budget game selection which is going to be given a hearty mention in their latest book Kickstarter ' The Mastertronic Archives : The Ultimate Mastertronic Collector's Guide ', by Player One Books!

Big Mac : The Mad Maintenance Man - Theenemy cracks a frustrating C64 title

Now here's a game I never played when it originally came out, it's Big Mac - The Mad Maintenance Man by Mastertronic, released for the C64 way back in 1985 which has now been cracked by Theenemy. With a similar game play style to Manic Miner, the aim of the game was to work your way through a power station with a limited air supply, by flipping power levers while also avoiding deadly traps such as beams, electrical lines and other such nasties that would kill you in one go.

Spellbound - A very classic Mastertronic ZX Spectrum review

Following from the footsteps of the excellent Finders Keepers comes the equally excellent Spellbound. A far cry from the platform orientated FK, this time you were in a 'True Graphic Adventure' as the title screen suggests. This summed up the game brilliantly. This is what an adventure would look like if put into visuals instead of the standard text-based affair. The genius way to get around entering sentences or commands that, let's be honest hardly ever seem to work ('you cannot do that yet', 'I don't understand' - sound familiar?) was the excellent 'Windimation' window which you could open and select various commands, of which increased when certain objects were collected.
