An unofficial and unfinished demo bonanza for the Amiga via Scorpion Engine

A rather interesting news story for you all, as looking through the EAB forums for some games to talk about, and we've found out through Earok, who created the Scorpion Engine, that he has made available a basket full of unofficial and unfinished demo projects for the Commodore Amiga. Although he does state while they can be downloaded, aren't really intended to be played! Well that hasn't stopped us, as here's the latest videos and further details from Earok below.

Knight on the Moon - A Zelda like game is in development for the NES by kn56k

If you're looking for a new NES game to try and want one to satisfy your retro gaming needs, then look no further than this work in progress Zelda like game of 'Knight on the Moon' by Kn56k. A game which when finished, will not only features 8 directional movement, but there's 6 Large bosses, 5 main "dungeons", puzzle solving , exploration and weapons pickups and hidden secrets. To coincide with this news, if this sounds like your sort of game worth keeping an eye on, then make sure to check out the early demo that's available below.

Link's Awakening DX HD - An unofficial PC remake that breathes new life into this classic Game Boy Color game from 1998!

If like me, you're a huge fan of Zelda, then you'll be happy to know as thanks to a heads up by Tom via Twitter, he has told us that linksawakeningdxhd has made available this incredible looking game of "Link's Awakening DX HD". As in the words of the creator "Dive into the enchanting world of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX as you've never experienced it before, with this meticulously crafted PC version that breathes new life into this classic Game Boy Color adventure from 1998."

The Last Dungeon - A new Zelda like game teased for the Commodore Amiga (+Demo)

The Amiga news just keep on coming, as thanks to another heads up earlier today from a good friend of ours, we have been told that Pixelplop has teased a new Commodore Amiga game via the AmiJam of The Last Dungeon; A Zelda like game in which you have to traverse dangerous dungeons to find loot and keys! To coincide with this new Amiga news story, not only has the creator released a work in progress demo for you to try, but Saberman has done another video showing the game being played.

Sword & Sorcerer - A new Zelda like game teased for the Commodore Amiga

The Amiga news just keep on coming, as thanks to another heads up earlier today from a good friend of ours, we have been told that Pixelplop has teased a new Commodore Amiga game of Sword & Sorcerer; A Zelda like game in which you have to traverse dangerous dungeons to find loot and keys! To coincide with this new Amiga news story, the creator has also shown some early footage of the game with the hero battling some of the enemies found in one of the many levels.

La Culotte de Zelda - An adaptation of the Zelda classic for the Amstrad CPC Plus

I thought to myself today it's been some time since we had any Zelda style games on Indie Retro News, but thankfully I came across one that doesn't just look like a Zelda game, but it could be the next best thing for any Amstrad Plus owner. Titled as 'La Culotte de Zelda' and created by Zisquier, with graphics by BDCIron, this is going to be an adaptation of "The Legends of Zelda" which came out on the NES, but also nods to "Link To The past" and "Link's Awakening".

Zelda as an unfinished "Prototype" for the Commodore Amiga by Tukinem

If like me, you're a huge fan of Zelda, then you'll be happy to know as thanks to a heads up by Saberman, he has told us that Tukinem has made available the unfinished prototype(?) of Zelda over to the Commodore Amiga. As in his words "Work on it lasted great until I was overwhelmed by the enormity of this game, features such as additional maps with dungeons, computer AI and various armaments of our hero". In light of this news, Saberman has also done a new video showing how far the game has come in development since it was halted. 

Lykia - The Lost Island - HOT NEWS as a HUGE C64/Plus4 Zelda-like open world adventure gets a release!

It's been some time since we had any Zelda style games on Indie Retro News, but thanks to a heads up from Puls4r Productions, we have just been told that the previously mentioned game of Lykia - The Lost Island. A high quality game for the C64, expanded C16 and Plus/4 which is full of Zelda-ish passion in FLIvision. Has just been released for free much to the surprise of many in the retro gaming community. To coincide with this news, you can check out the latest screenshot and trailer below.

Timothy and the Mysterious Forest - Bit of a Zelda fan? You might enjoy this upcoming game


I thought to myself today it's been some time since we had any Zelda style games on Indie Retro News, but thankfully I came across one that doesn't only look like a Zelda game, but it almost looks like an original Gameboy title. This game announced as coming to Steam soon, is called " Timothy and the Mysterious Forest " by Kibou Entertainment; an "old school" style with some modern-age ideas. A mix of Game Boy graphics (heavily inspired from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening) along with meta-narrative, stealth system and action combat with high level difficulty.

Romhacking Spotlight - The DX Edition posted by Thermoptic


This segment of the Romhacking Spotlight is all about DX! You might remember that Nintendo has re-relased a number of titles for the Gameboy with the added letters DX at the end. These were games that first were released for the original Gameboy - in its fabolous limited monochrome colors - later enhanced and upgraded in full color for the Gameboy Color. Some great examples of these were Tetris DX, R-Type DX and of course The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. The most notable changes of the DX games where the addition of a color pallet but there were also other tweaks and features added making it a Deluxe version, or "DX".

Zelda Fan Game - Scorpion Engine testing on the Commodore Amiga


We've featured many Zelda fan games over the years from Zelda Parallel Worlds to Beyond Hyrule to name but a few, but unlike those games however this one is slightly special. As thanks to Earok, he has announced the first showing of the Scorpion Engine for the Commodore Amiga; a new engine as a remake of the tiny part of the open source Zelda fan game "Return of the Hylian" (by Vincent Jouillat).

Dawnthorn - Stand-alone prequel to Zelda inspired Hazelnut Bastille is announced


While many of you are excited to learn that Aloft's Zelda inspired RPG of HAZELNUT BASTILLE is a huge Kickstarter success raising £116,390 of a £51,027 goal and still 20 hours to go. You may also be interested to know that the same team have recently announced Dawnthorn; a standalone prequel to Hazelnut Bastille, set in the same universe as Hazelnut, but instead is more inspired to classic NES RPG's whereas Hazelnut Bastille compares more to classic games found on the SNES and Sega Megadrive.

Xelda - A grand Zelda inspired game makes its appearance on the ZX Spectrum


What a great release for all that is Spectrum, as we've just heard from Andrew Dansby that his Zelda inspired game of ' Xelda - Quest for the Golden Apple ' is finally here and ready to be played on a 128k ZX Spectrum. One of the first games by the developer who started playing around with Basic; comes a brand new game using the Mojon Twins MK2 game engine, that has been in development for nearly a year which features a huge amount of screens to play through!

XELDA - Another Zelda'ish game is coming to the ZX Spectrum!


Zelda ZX by Team ZZX  and Legend of Zelda by David Clarke aren't the only Zelda styled games coming to the ZX Spectrum, as we've been informed by the creator Andrew Dansby that he too is making a similar game and it's going to be called XELDA. Currently at a work in progress state and loadable by a standard 128k Speccy on cassette, this game aims to be a bit of a big one that will be packed with both worlds and dungeons to satisfy most who love playing as Link.

Zelda II - New Adventure of Link - Even more classic gaming with all new Overworlds and more!


Are you bored and want something fresh to play on your NES but sticking with that Zelda theme? Then how about playing the latest release of 'Zelda II - New Adventure of Link', which turns the original action JRPG with platforming elements released in 1987, into an almost new game! Yes that's right Link is back, but this time in an all new Zelda II adventure with not just all new overworlds but new battles and different side views!

Legend of Zelda - Another work in progress Zelda clone has appeared on the ZX Spectrum


As some of you are aware just yesterday we announced Team ZZX's in development Zelda clone game that was coming to the ZX Spectrum at some point during 2018, well that game isn't the only one that's in development as we've just been told by the creator David Clarke, that he is also making a Legend of Zelda game, and that one is being developed using Arcade Game Designer. In light of this news there's even more footage to show, and even though it doesn't have sound, it looks pretty decent!

Zelda ZX - Team ZZX has just teased a Zelda clone on the ZX Spectrum


During the last few months we've been keeping you up to date with the latest developments regarding the possible Zelda like game that was coming to the C64, but now as a hot off the press announcement, Team ZZX has just contacted us through our email of a Zelda game that is in development for the ZX Spectrum and coming in 2018. Although not much else is known about the game, this very early sneak teaser shows a treasure chest opening, and some sweet Zelda music.
