Duangle 2015 Intro - Amiga cracktro parody on a Pico-8!

There's something to be said about cracktro's and scene demo's, there's nothing more enjoyable than seeing waves of text, moving objects and upbeat tunes from a bunch of users showing off their creative talent on an old retro system. One such cracktro for mention wasn't developed on the Amiga however, but is actually a parody of one and was created on the Pico-8, as paniq has said for the " Duangle 2015 Intro " : This is kind of a parody of old amiga cracktros from a parallel universe, where duangle is a demoscene group, and so are all the people in the greetings!

So head on over to the Pico-8 site and check it out, it's rather cool ( Link )

The best logos from the Commodore Amiga scene featured on Digitalista

When you're an admin of some of the biggest retro gaming Facebook groups, it gives you that extra added bonus of finding news stories that might go amiss by other methods. This is especially true of today's story, as Paul Chadwick has come across a great look back at most of the best logos to come out of the Commodore Amiga scene.

Pico-8 : An 8 bit fantasy console from the makers of Voxatron (IRN Cracktro special!)

For the last couple of weeks I've been playing around with a "fantasy console" from makers of voxatron, lexaloffle. This review was supposed to be a quick report of a cool looking toy I found for making retro style games and prototypes or game jam entries. It started with an innocent posting that made it to the front page of Hacker News, and a quick glance indicated it would be suitable fodder for Indie Retro News. A quick round up of what was going on with some screenshots. Yeah, I'd have this wrapped up in a day. What I didn't expect was what I discovered...

MEGATRON - Tron speeds on to your C64!

You may be wondering what happened to us yesterday, well sufficed to say I was upgrading to Windows 10 and at first it didn't go to plan, if only it was easy as playing an Amstrad, C64 or ZX Spectrum game, no operating systems to install and worry about. So lets mention a C64 game then, 'MEGATRON', released by Technische Maschinenfabrik and cracked by Genesis Project; a game that is every bit like the original Tron, just not as snazzy looking!

Maniac Mansion Demo Disk - Onslaught releases the demo of an all time classic for the C64!

I know our readers like great finds, so here's one to add to your C64 collection, it's the Maniac Mansion Demo Disk cracked by Onslaught. Originally Maniac Mansion was released way back in 1987 as a graphic adventure by Lucasfilm Games for the C64 and Apple II, it was highly praised and today is still regarded as one of the best adventure games of it's time. Well it looks as if over these past few years the demo disk has surfaced which according to some never officially saw a release, hence why you'll probably see a number of dropped jaws at the mention of the demo.

Tai Chi Tortoise +47D - Platforming fun for C64

Another C64 release which has been cracked and given a new +47D trainer is Zeppelin Games 1991 arcade platformer "Tai chi Tortoise". A 1 player side scrolling platformer, and with a ZX Spectrum conversion, you play as a Tortoise that jumps on platforms, collects items, finds treasure chests and avoids deadly enemies. A rather frustrating platformer as the jumping can be a bit iffy, has been given the trainer treatment by Hackersoft and is once again playable with lots of lovely cheats.

Gem Quest Preview +4 - 1990 C64 release cracked by Excess

Excess has just released a preview cracked and trainered version of "Gem Quest"; A C64 1990 shoot em up, originally developed by Kinsoft. According to games that weren't, Gem Quest was originally a demo from Cory of Pixel Developments and due to studies the game was never finished. You can certainly tell this is the case because when you play the game without the trainer, there are no gems to collect just enemies to shoot and time runs out very quickly. Yet with the trainer and no time loss it turns the game into a very playable shoot em up with high score ranking, certainly a great start to 2015!

Faster than Light - C64 Preview download!

If you have a C64 or even an emulator and have played the original hit spaceship simulation game Faster than Light on the PC, then this C64 version is very much worthy of a download. Although it's a preview work in progress version, it does contain a short snippet of gameplay and one hell of an awesome soundtrack. I can't wait to see if the developer turns the game into a full version or it's just a side project but so far it's looking mighty impressive.
