RemakeJam - A game jam where you remake your very first game!
Many years ago when Indie Retro News was just barely a blog, we used to pride ourselves on writing about the latest game remakes, taking old games and bringing them out into a modern age. Games such as Dune 2, Deuteros, Millenium 2.2, Super Thundercats, PSST, CaesarIA and many others were featured on this site, much to the excitement of our readers. So you can see why this latest game jam called ' #Remakejam ' may well take center stage on our site. Basically in two days time, developers from around the world will have to use the duration of the game jam to remake the very first game they created, adapting them to use any new skills, aesthetics, or techniques they developed since they started
ZX Spectrum BASIC Jam - Create a game in Sinclair BASIC to celebrate the birth of the ZX Spectrum
Throughout the years we've tried to feature as many retro inspired game jams as possible, from the Speccy Jam to the very latest GBJam. Each of these gave people around the world the opportunity to create any game they wish, as long as it fits the specific system criteria set by the competition creators. As such thanks to the organiser Gazzapper and a heads up by Gary Plowman (ZX Spectrum Games Code Club book), today's game jam called 'ZX Spectrum BASIC Jam', is in celebration of the birthday of the ZX Spectrum (35), Dartmouth BASIC (53), and the birth of the new ZX Spectrum Next.

Pico-8 : An 8 bit fantasy console from the makers of Voxatron (IRN Cracktro special!)
For the last couple of weeks I've been playing around with a "fantasy console" from makers of voxatron, lexaloffle. This review was supposed to be a quick report of a cool looking toy I found for making retro style games and prototypes or game jam entries. It started with an innocent posting that made it to the front page of Hacker News, and a quick glance indicated it would be suitable fodder for Indie Retro News. A quick round up of what was going on with some screenshots. Yeah, I'd have this wrapped up in a day. What I didn't expect was what I discovered...
The 2015 ZXS Retro Game Jam is about to begin
Throughout these last few years we've featured as many of the retro inspired game jams as possible, from the Speccy Jam to the very latest GBJam 4. Construct 2 Coin-op Jam - Create an arcade game in 6 days!
If the #adventurejam wasn't to your liking, especially if you prefer Platformers or Shoot em ups, then how about the Construct 2 Coin-op Jam (#construct2coinop), which ends in 6 days from this posting. If you remember Arcade games such as Donkey Kong or Pacman, then this is the jam for you! Using Construct 2, you must create a game that should hopefully hold the quality of an old school coin-op game such as those classics we fondly remember.
Point and Click Jam - Create a Point and Click adventure!
When I read the words of Game Jam, my instant thoughts are of lots of awesome free games to play developed by talented people at home. From the more recent #NESJAM to the very popular #Speccyjam they both had very special development rules that stated you must create a game in the theme set by the specific rules. For example developing a modern first person shooter wouldn't be acceptable for the #NESJAM. Moving on from that, in 25 days a very special Jam is about to begin, the #PointClickJam in which you need to create a point and click adventure in 15 Days. Just think all those lovely point and click adventure games in the style of Sierra or Lucasarts!
SpeccyJam - A new retro game jam inspired by the ZX Spectrum begins today!
Finally it's here, a game development jam many of us have been eagerly waiting for since it's first announcement some months ago. A jam so damn awesome that it has an impressive judge panel that are well known in the retro scene. Judges such as Jas Austin who coded the Speccy version of Sega classic Altered, Beast, Colin Jones responsible for Rock Star Ate My Hamster and Clive Townsend produced ninja adventure, Saboteur. It's the Speccy Jam, in which indie developers from around the world will come together on the 29th August - 5th September to create brand new retro inspired games in the flavour of that great 8-bit system, the ZX Spectrum
