Soko-Ban - 1980's game of Sokoban on the PC, gets a unique Amiga port by Tukinem

While Twitch streamers Amiga Bill and PintzandAmiga are probably going to be overloaded with the amount of Amiga updates on offer this week. I thought it would be worth mentioning however, that Tukinem has released the new Commodore Amiga game of 'Soko-Ban'. A 1984 game of Sokoban by Spectrum Holobyte that appeared on the PC, which has since got a unique Amiga port. A game that requires a lot of skill and patience as you have to move boxes around in a maze in a specific way, to complete the level.

Absolute Zero - A 2023 Puzzle Platformer for the Amiga gets a new build!

The games just keep on coming and more so Amiga ones, as we've recently been contacted about a rather challenging game called Absolute Zero that has been updated with a new build for the Commodore Amiga by GUS Entertainment. Developed in RedPill and originally coming 1st at the POSADAS 2023 HOMEBREW GAMES COMPETITION, you play as Corben, a courageous explorer, on a dangerous quest to save our frozen world! To coincide with this news, Saberman also did a video of the game being played below.

Platman MC - A lovely new homebrew for the C64 by Wanax and team!

Way back in 2016 I announced Saul Cross and Wanax's arcade platformer of ' Platman ', A game that I was sure would be a winner in the RGCD C64 16KB Cartridge Game Development Competition 2015/16. Well fast forward to today however, and this lovely homebrew from Wanax and team, has been re-released and updated as Platman MC. An enhanced and multi-colour version of a game that is a real treat to play on your Commodore 64.

MoonRN - A new endless runner for the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum by Snauts

Fancy something different other than the usual genres I've been posting about these last few weeks, then come and check out Snaut's endless runner game of MoonRN for the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum. A game in which you must use the power of the moon that has solidified water, to leap over King Lamsack's ponds as a challenge for a great reward. Complete his challenge, and a patch of land, a sack of seeds, and a big jug of moonshine is yours. In light of this news, Xenomorph has provided a video showing the Amstrad version in action.

Super Sokoban - A new MSX2 game as a 40th birthday celebration of the MSX puzzler Sokoban!

A new MSX 2 news story has hit our inbox, as we've just been informed through Facebook, that 2NICE has released a very polished Sokoban incarnation, to celebrate the 40th birthday of the original MSX game called 'Super Sokoban'.A game that requires a lot of skill and patience as you have to move boxes around in a maze in a specific way, to complete the level. To coincide with this news, we've got some new footage of this rather nice Sokoban game!

Forest Escape - A Knight's Quest - Collect coins and avoid enemies in this HQ ZX Spectrum 48/128k/NEXT game! [UPDATE]

Kommando Urbex 1 & 2 - Another Amstrad CPC game release by Altanerus Dog [UPDATE]

Thanks to another heads up by both XeNoMoRPH and Saberman, we've been told that Altanerus Dog has released a new Amstrad CPC Adventure game of 'Kommando Urbex'. A game in which you must not only explore an old agricultural complex from the 17th century to investigate strange events, but you must find out what has happened to two other colleagues that have disappeared. In light of this news that was sent to us just moments ago, we have some new footage of the game which as ever can be viewed further down the page.

A Centipede Emulator for the Atari 8bit/Commodore 64 by Norbert! [UPDATE]

Welcome to Centipede for the C64 as an emulator by Norbert. A game that was not only released as a vertical fixed shooter by Atari in 1980, but it also featured as a rather cheesy but nostalgic Pixel movie. A nod to a game in which you had to protect your garden against not just spiders and scorpions, but also a rather nasty splitting Centipede. To coincide with this bit of history, Saberman has provided some gameplay footage of the Centipede Emulator for the C64!

LightTheLEDs - A new Amiga puzzler from Skinny Marley creator Toolzzi

JOTD isn't the only developer who is hard at work creating new Amiga games, as looking through the Commodore Amiga Facebook group, we've just found out that Toolzzi. Who was also behind games such as Skinny Marley, Cat Hunts Rats and Skinny Marley Waiter Dog. Has released a new Commodore Amiga Puzzler of 'LightTheLeds'. A true tribute to the creative spirit of Amiga fans, offering an electrifying challenge where you connect batteries to LEDs, but with a special twist. Abyssal Karma Part 1 - A top scrolling Shoot 'em up for the C64 by Rodrigo Yeowtch [UPDATE]

If you're not playing modern games such as Stalker 2, or the latest hardware release of 'The Spectrum', then how about this homebrew update of Rodrigo's Commodore 64 top scrolling Shoot 'em up of 'Abyssal Karma':  An entertaining game which now includes new enemies, a final boss, and an ending screen that should keep you occupied throughout today. To coincide with this news, we've got some more info as well as some game play footage provided below.

Rogul - Hack'n'Slash Roguelike for the Atari XL/XE by Bocianu with music by PG

Roguelike. Just the word brings up thoughts of ascii based dungeon crawlers with esoteric early '80s User Interfaces that have the steepest of learning curves that have more complexity than a B-52 cockpit. There are hundreds if not thousands of roguelike projects, each with their own unique spin on the classic formula. Rogul is one such roguelike that deserves a mention today, as not only is it for the Atari XL/XE, but this game has received a new update featuring a number of changes and fixes, bringing it to version 1.0f.

Tracker Hero - A musical game for the Amiga? Count me in!

Throughout the years most of the games I feature on Indie Retro News, are either arcade platformers, shoot 'em ups, or my least favorite genre, puzzlers. Well here's something that is likely to spice it up a bit in the Amiga scene, is Zener's Commodore Amiga itch io upload of Tracker Hero. A musical game that doesn't just use MOD song files, but if you've ever played Guitar Hero or Dance Mat, then this latest Amiga update will suit you perfectly! Not sure what I mean? Then check out this gameplay video below and it will all make sense :).

Elite for the VIC 20 (32K + 3K RAM) as an unofficial port by Aleksi Eeben!

I've always had a soft spot for Elite ever since I played 'Frontier Elite II' on the Amiga in 1993. Although Elite and Frontier Elite II was vastly different in graphical quality, it still gave a space-sim sci-fi experience like no other! Allowing the user to fight in space, trade, complete missions and even in Frontier Elite II land on planets. In fact I'm not the only one to enjoy Elite, as a coder by the name of Aleksi Eeben, has released an unofficial port of Elite for the VIC-20 (32K + 3K RAM). 

Castlevania AGA - Castlevania for the Commodore Amiga is feature complete!

Castlevania is certainly a game worth mentioning on Indie Retro News, especially with games mentioned such as the Castlevania 30th anniversary NES facelift, Intellivision, and even the incredible Castlevania Spectral Interlude on the ZX Spectrum. Well today's news is something special indeed, as thanks to the developer Dante Retro Dev announcing the update on EAB, he has said that the Scorpion Engine created Castlevania AGA, is now feature complete! Maze of the Robots - Classic 1980's arcade Bezerk conversion for the ZX Spectrum by Steve Snake goes free

Great news if you have a ZX Spectrum, as we've recently been given the heads up by Saberman, that Steve Snake with publishing by Midnight Brew Games has released FOR FREE the unofficial port of the original arcade version of ' Bezerk ' for the ZX Spectrum! Why is this great news you might ask? Well Bezerk was one of the first games to dynamically generate mazes and have synthesized voices in the 1980's and it's a damn fun game to play as well!

Tank in a Dungeon - Battle dangerous robots with a tank in this new Amiga/C64 game by Rozsoft [UPDATE]


Usually when it comes to dungeon based games, you play as a knight or a group of people battling dangerous enemies, while avoiding traps and looking for glorious loot....But not in this game! Welcome to 'Tank in a Dungeon' by Rozsoft for the Amiga and Commodore 64. A game in which you not only play as a Tank , but you must battle through multiple dungeon levels against dangerous robots and other nasties. To coincide with this news, Saberman has provided a video showing version 1.4 for the C64, and the latest Amiga version released today.

Binary Battle - A unique take on the Dungeon Crawler experience for the C64/Plus4/MSX [UPDATE]


We've featured many Dungeon Crawlers over the years, from ones such as Eye of the Beholder, with its first person grid based movement, to the top down turn based ones such as Descending Dungeons. This game however called 'Binary Battle' by Haplo and team, is not only a dungeon crawler, but according to the creator "is a novel take on the genre that is inspired by GEOS and the PC game Folder Dungeon". A game that can be seen being played in this latest footage sent to us by Saberman of the MSX and Plus/4 version.

Action Biker - A great 8bit game gets an enhanced version by Grue

Ask anyone about the 8bit game of Action Biker, and they'd probably tell you it was not only a great game with an awesome soundtrack, but there was nothing more fun than riding about on a motorbike, collecting various items, while avoiding all sorts of obstacles. Well this famous game hasn't just made a special appearance on our site, but thanks to Grue however, there's also been an enhanced version further improving an already great game.

21 Grams of Soul for the Amstrad CPC by Altanerus Dog

Anyone who has owned an Amstrad CPC growing up would probably have come across Amsoft published titles such as Roland on the Ropes, Oh Mummy, Harrier Attack, Roland in the Caves and my personal favourite, Tombstowne. Well if you fancy playing a game that looks like it was released by Amsoft, then come and check out Altanerus Dog's latest Amstrad CPC release of '21 Grams of Soul'. An Arcade game in which playing as the soul of Jocob recently deceased, you must escape the psychiatric hospital Dauer!

Molotov - Take revenge on tobacco and gambling shops in this new MSX game by joesg

Fancy playing an enjoyable arcade platformer released for the MSX via the MSXDev competition, then come and check out 'Molotov' by Joesg! A game in which you not only have to take revenge on tobacco and gambling shops, but playing as Fernando, you must create a Molotov cocktail to use it on these establishments to put them out of business for good. Scary Things - A vertical scrolling Shoot 'em up for the ZX Spectrum previously released for Halloween [UPDATE]

If you're looking for more scary goodness then you've come to right place! As after already featuring the ZX Spectrum game of 'Monster Mayhem' by Mananuk, along comes another game for the ZX Spectrum called ' Scary Things 2.0 ' by DF Design. A vertical scrolling Shoot 'em up previously released for Halloween in which you have to blast your way through a World of Horror hosted by an infamous film character. To coincide with this news, we've got a very brief description of the game as well as a short play through below.

Super Star Wars - Holiday Special unofficially arrives on the Commodore Amiga as a port from the Sega Mega Drive

Although I'm personally not a fan of Star Wars (I blame my Ex :p). I've just found out through Earok however, that not only did the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis get a new homebrew release called 'Super Star Wars Holiday Special'. Which is an unofficial game from the cult-classic SNES Super Star Wars series, and loosely based on the outrageous The Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978. But as of today you can download the Commodore Amiga version, that's been ported over as the first public beta by Earok.

Schreckenstein 64 - A port of the fabulous Atari 800/XL exclusive game Schreckenstein by Peter Finze!

An early morning heads up for you all, as we've recently been informed that Rob Rafac has released the Atari XL/XE to Commodore 64 port of Schreckenstein. As in the words of the creator. "I have been working on a port of the fabulous Atari 800/XL-exclusive game Schreckenstein by Peter Finzel (not to be confused with the several C64 games with similar names), so I want to turn it loose on the community here". To coincide with this news, Saberman has provided a video showing the game in action.

Golf Dash Extended - An updated 4k Craptastic C64 game from Megastyle

It's time for the C64 to get in on the new year fun, as we've recently found out through our emails, that Megastyle has released an updated 4k Craptastic C64 game called 'Golf Dash Extended'; A puzzle game in which you need to move a ball in the correct direction from wall to wall, until it reaches the hole. The less moves you do it in, the more constructive your judge will be towards you at the end of the game. If that doesn't make much sense, make sure to watch the video for a better explanation ;).

Tiny Pixel Adventure - A classic pixel retro game that will captivate you for the Amiga!

Thanks to Saberman contacting us late last night, we have been told that the developer HooGames2017, who created the awesome scorpion engine based game of Dr.Dangerous, has made available the brilliant Commodore Amiga game of 'Tiny Pixel Adventure'. A game in which the dev says "Welcome to the colorful and dangerous world of Tiny Pixel Adventure, a classic pixel retro game that will captivate you!". To coincide with this news, we've got a new video from the latest version that's available to download right now!

F-16 Falcon Strike - An updated flight simulator for the Atari XL/XE by Jarosław 'Roeoender' Wosik

I hardly ever feature flight simulators here on Indie Retro News. It's not as if I don't want to, but the chances of a developer releasing a new flight sim for a retro system is very rare. Today's news however is pretty special. As not only is it flight simulator related, but a creator by the name of Jarosław 'Roeoender' Wosik has released an update to his Atari XL/XE game of ' F-16 Falcon Strike '. As in his words "homage to the golden era of 80/90's computer combat flight simulators". To coincide with this news, we've got some footage of this rather cool game below.

Rintivoorh - As a prototype Amiga game, this looks pretty decent by UltraNarwhal [Update]

While I'm trying to avoid prototypes as half the time they never get finished, there was a couple of games entered into the AmiGameJam 2024 that caught my attention. One of those games in development by UltraNarwhal, who was also behind the charming Amiga platformer of Duckstroma. Has made available a prototype of an Amiga platformer called Rintivoorh. What makes this one pretty special however, is not only does it look pretty damn cool, but according to the developer "it's a prototype for 'The Sequel That Never Was' - What if there was a Hawkeye sequel?".

Bunnito's Feast - Check out this charming Commodore Amiga (AGA) game by captain-ts

Looking to play a charming and family friendly game over the weekend, then this game by Captain-ts might just the game for you! It's Bunnito's Feast' for the Commodore Amiga (AGA). A game in which playing as a cute Bunny that has escaped his cage, you must traverse dangerous landscapes while finding food along the way, to hopefully find your way home. To coincide with this news, we've got a brief description about this Scorpion Engine developed game as well as a gameplay video from Saberman.

Dungeons of GOMILANDIA - A Puzzler from Retro Works for the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum

Another Amstrad CPC news story, as thanks to a recent contact in our emails, we've been told that RetroWorks has released the Amstrad CPC version of their platform puzzler called 'Dungeons of GOMILANDIA': A high quality game that was previously released for the ZX Spectrum, that was also by the same team behind one of the best 8bit homebrews 'The Sword of Ianna'. To coincide with this news, we've got some footage and how to play the game below.

Pepper Buster - Pac-Man... A classic reinvented… with a spicy twist for the Amstrad CPC

Tetris isn't the only game that keeps appearing on IndieRetroNews, as according to both Saberman and Xenomorph, Crazy Piri has released the Pac-Man game with a twist for the Amstrad CPC, called 'Pepper Buster'. A game that doesn't just have all the dot chomping goodness you could want in a Pac-Man Arcade style game, but there's also explosive bonuses and penalties added in too! Gilligan's Mine - A new remake of Gilligan's Gold / Bagman for the ZX Spectrum 128k

Another new year heads up for you all, as we've recently been told through Facebook, that Clebin Games has released the high quality ZX Spectrum 128k remake of the 1980's game of Gilligan's Gold / Bagman. A game which spawned a number of more recent versions for the Amiga and C64 such as Bagman Strikes Back, Bagman Comes Back, and Super Bagman.
