Master of Magic - A classic 4x strategy game by Microprose reviewed by DarkwyndPT

Like I said in my previous review, this time we’ll take a look at one of my personal favourite games of all times and perhaps the most in-depth game I’ve ever played, Master of Magic. Master of Magic is a 4X strategy game developed by Simtex and published by MicroProse. It was originally released in 1994 for DOS and ported for the PC-98 in 1996.

To say I'm overjoyed right now is an understatement, as we've just learnt of the recent news that ' Master of Orion '; the incredible 4x space strategy game from 1993 and released by Microprose, which is getting a reboot called ' Master of Orion : Conquer the Stars '. Has just had a brand new reveal, showing a star-studded cast of acting talent who have leant their voices to the game’s galactic inhabitants!

8-bit Civilizations - Ambitious project for a Civilizations inspired C64 game!

Good morning retro gamers, have we got a special Monday announcement for you! A Lemon64 member by the name of DrKhumalo has teased a work in progress Civilization style game for the C64, as ' 8-bit Civilizations '. Now I'm sure many of  you have heard of the highly addictive management game called 'Civilization' by Microprose, well this developer who is a huge fan of such games including Master of Magic has always been disappointed that there was nothing like it for the C64, at least until now.

After our recent article of the news that ' Master of Orion '; the incredible 4x space strategy game from 1993 and released by Microprose, was getting a reboot titled ' Master of Orion : Conquer the Stars '. We've just learned of a new developer diary that has been released which shows off not just the racial diplomacy animation that looks very much like Civ 5, but also an inside look at the game’s creation, from its orchestral score, design, lore, and much more.

Microprose Formula One Grand Prix - Earok's next encore Amiga CD32 release

Rev your engines, wait for the green light and GO! As Earok has released the next Encore Amiga CD32 port of Microprose Formula One Grand Prix and the 2014 season update. Grand Prix was originally released in 1991 and featured some of the best simulated racing experiences ever to appear on the Amiga. It really felt like you were driving in the Grand Prix, as it had proper speed immersion and great crashes (of which I experienced a lot).

OpenXcom - Open Source Xcom 1.0 feature release!

Another great bit of news today as OpenXcom, which is the new open source version of X-Com originally released by Microprose in 1994 has now hit the big 1.0 version release. Replay one of the best strategy games ever made as you take control of an organisation in a task to defend the Earth from an invading alien force. Build bases, research new tech, arm your team and stop the alien menace in a top down turn based strategy game that has lasted the test of time.

Even us Retro gamers would notice a difference with full 256 colour graphics and other enhanced details with terrain and cockpit detail being the most noticeable. OpenXcom - A top Quality open-source UFO: Enemy Unknown release!

This day just gets better and better, as we now have the brand new open source release version 0.9 of OpenXcom. But what is OpenXcom and why should you care? This is an open-source reimplementation of UFO: Enemy Uknown, the incredible Strategy game developed by Mythos/Microprose in which you take control of the X-Com organistion to fight off aliens invading earth. OpenXcom has given X-Com a real boost into the new generation but keeping the original feel, which the developer states : The goal of this project is to bring back the tried and true feel of the original with none of the issues! Play the game natively without any need for emulators or fancy hacks, with none of the limitations and bugs that plagued the original. No more 80-item-limit, personnel limits, funding overflows, disconnected facilities, broken proximity grenades, floating soldiers, etc.  There's even more to drool over with this release, so check out the release log and download!
