Over these last few years we have kept a keen eye on ' Twisted Insurrection ', a standalone RTS total conversion based on the Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun engine that has a new in-depth storyline, which puts you in an alternate timeline where the Brotherhood of Nod were victorious during the first Tiberian War rather than the GDI. Well this month the creators of the standalone conversion have announced a trailer for ' Twisted Insurrection 0.6 ', which is going to be a huge update that Command and Conquer fans will not want to miss.

As the MOD of the year and Indie game of the year is still progressing on IndieDB, we came across an update to one of the most highly regarded Command and Conqueror conversions that we have ever played that we mentioned some years ago here on Indie Retro News. This is of course ' Twisted Insurrection '; a Standalone RTS total conversion update based on the Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun engine. The original release featured completely new units, structures (both new and old), new environments, a new story and now with the latest version 0.4.5 including some performance updates and numerous bug fixes to the client and the mod itself.

Tiberian Sun Client - Full RTS standalone package gets an update

One of our readers by the name of Ant, has informed the Bluesnews community of a brand new Tiberian Sun Client release version 3.59, which doesn't just have the full Tiberian Sun and Firestorm campaigns included, but is now based on the client technology from The Dawn of the Tiberium Age (link) and Twisted Insurrection (link), with modding support and much more! As such you too can play the mighty Westwood RTS games in high detail completely free through an easy to use launcher. What's more, this is for both single player and modders, and fixes all the known bugs in Tiberian Sun while offering lots more functionality never before seen in the originals.

It has been nearly three years since we last mentioned one of the greatest Command and Conqueror conversions ever to be released and today saw the announcement of ' Twisted Insurrection 0.39.1', a Standalone RTS total conversion update based on the Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun engine. The original release featured completely new units, structures (both new and old), new environments, and a new story with further changes and additions added to the latest update.

Wings of Dawn - Standalone space shooter built on the Freespace 2 engine!

In 1999, Violation Inc released one of the greatest space combat simulation games I have ever played, it was titled 'FreeSpace2 and was the sequel to Descent : FreeSpace - The Great War. It had incredible space battles, huge space ships, big laser beams, excellent sound effects and an impressive story to go with it. But through the years it has been ever improved upon with amazing detail, new spin off stories, more improvements and much more, thanks to the open source release of FS2 Open. The feature of today is 'Wings of Dawn' an anime-inspired space shooter which is also built on the FS2 Open engine.

The Dawn of the Tiberium Age - RTS v1.13 released!

We haven't featured a C&C mod for a very long time and that is about to change with the announcement of the release of "The Dawn of the Tiberium Age" v1.13; a standalone Tiberian Sun to Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert total conversion. Unlike The Second Tiberium War - C&C: Tiberian Sun Firestorm mod & Twisted Insurrection, The Dawn of Tiberium Age DTA's classic mode aims to mimic TD's gameplay as closely as possible, while the enhanced mode adds many new features to the TD factions. Also according to the developers it also adds balance improvements and also allows you to play as the RA factions. In other words, you're able to for example have matches between Nod and Soviet or mix it up however you like.

OpenIG : Imperium Galactica Open Source Remake has implemented random galaxy generator in latest release!

Another open source game that has also had a nice update and that is OpenIG, which is an open source remake of Imperium Galactica. A hit strategy game where you colonize the stars and involve yourself in a rather cool fmv based story. The developer of OpenIG, David Karnok has just announced the release of 0.95.173 which contains a feature not in the original game and that is a random galaxy generator. Although in the original main game had up to 340 planets, by modding it can have even more. As this is free and open source, you do not need the original game to play. Just download and run (Java needed)
