SimCity - Prototype on the NES has been found and shown!

This news has just blown us away, as after just coming back to search through our usual gaming hideouts we have found out that a prototype of Simcity on the NES has been found and shown off as footage by Benjamin Ramirez! This famous city building game that has appeared on the PC and other platforms such as the SNES, was sadly never released even though it was announced as coming to the NES in the Nintendo Power Magazine of 1990. Unlike many other prototypes we've seen on other systems such as an earlier version of Rayman, SimCity on the NES certainly looks as if it was way ahead in development, even though it was canned.

Kingdoms and Castles - A charming city builder is now available via GOG/Steam!

When I was a youngster one of my most favourite pass times was to build mighty castles, look after my peasants with food and housing, and defend them from attacking foes. This is probably why I was so hooked on games such as Castles and even The Settlers. So to find a game that is very similar but with dragons and vikings, in a world of charming detail I just had to give it a mention. This is Kingdoms and Castles, a brand new city builder developed by Lion Shield, that is now available to buy on both GOG and Steam!

Foundation - Amiga CD Settlers style game gets a DamienD special Amiga release [UPDATE]

Ever since 1993 I've always had a soft spot for that classic game ' The Settlers ', there's something about the game that makes it highly addictive, whether it's the managing your own village, mining for minerals or conquering the lands around you that pulls you in. So to say I was disappointed that Settlers 2 never came to the Amiga was an understatement, at least until ' Foundation ' came around that is. You see Foundation was supposed to be like Settlers 2 and was to give it a run for its money, the problem was Foundation was and still is an Amiga CD only game, at least until today anyway. Because as of today as per our request, DamienD has converted the Amiga CD version as a fully runnable file on a real Amiga without the need for a CD-Rom drive!

8-bit Civilizations - Ambitious project for a Civilizations inspired C64 game!

Good morning retro gamers, have we got a special Monday announcement for you! A Lemon64 member by the name of DrKhumalo has teased a work in progress Civilization style game for the C64, as ' 8-bit Civilizations '. Now I'm sure many of  you have heard of the highly addictive management game called 'Civilization' by Microprose, well this developer who is a huge fan of such games including Master of Magic has always been disappointed that there was nothing like it for the C64, at least until now.

Today's game has to be Lethis Path of Progress, developed by Triskell Interactive; a brand new 2D city builder set in a Victorian Steampunk universe that's currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign.

Pirate's Life developed by Eye Patch is the latest 2D Strategy / builder game that's currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign. With a strong hint of Anno and added Tropico , you take on the role of a captain of a crew of pirates that has been shipwrecked on a desert island. Looking after your pirate crew, you must make sure their needs attended to or a mutiny will surely follow.

CaesarIA - Caesar III new open source remake announced via Steam Greenlight!

Although the development of CaesarIA has been ongoing since last year, it wasn't until it appeared on the Steam Greenlight page today that it caught my eye. CaesarIA is an open source remake of a classic management, strategy game called Caesar III from Impressions Games and published by Sierra Entertainment. A game that took many hours of my life away in enjoyment, a game that reflects upon the life of the Roman citizen. In other words, you are in control of Roman life, build for them, develop the city and be the best provincial governor, charged with spreading the glory of Rome. CaesarIA improves upon the great classic with further fixes and additions, but you will need the original Caesar III game to play.

Suburbian - A new take on the city builder genre! (Indiegogo/Steam Greenlight)

Suburbian by FrameLineNetwork is a new game that not just needs your votes through Steam Greenlight but also your Indiegogo pledges! This is more than a city builder, but the focus in this game is how you live your town and how you help your little Surburbian population. Create houses, move in your Suburians and create jobs for them. Place factories, police stations, fire stations and more, remember to expand the town, but be careful, if the money runs out, your people will leave. Surburbian looks as if it's taking the Sims and putting it through a Sim City blender!
