Anguish - Amiga classic *Agony* by Psygnosis is getting an unofficial spiritual sequel by Lionagony (+Demo)

In 1992, Psygnosis with development by Art & Magic, released the gorgeous owl flying shoot em up of AGONY, for the Amiga system. It was a very impressive game for its time using features such as scales of colors done with raster lines, halfbrite graphics mode for the between-level pictures, three layers of parallax scrolling using dual-playfield mode, in-game palette swapping, and continuous flashing of the background palette to simulate additional colors. In fact was such a good game, that a creator by the name of Lionagony is now working on his own spiritual sequel for the Amiga called 'Anguish'.

C64 Game Maker - A tool that allows you to generate C++ source code for simple video games

We've featured many game engine updates throughout the years, from the C64 with SEUCK, to a constant array of updates for the Amiga with either Backbone, Redpill or our personal favorite from Earok called The Scorpion Engine. Well here we are with another game engine news story, as thanks to a good friend of ours contacting us early this morning, he has told us of a game engine for the Commodore 64 called 'C64 Game Maker' by AGPX. A tool that allows you to generate C++ source code for simple video games. To coincide with this news, one of the highlighted game demos using this tool is shown below called 'Legacy of the Lost Spell'.

Another cool game has appeared in my inbox, as I'm pleased to tell you that the same creator of the awesome Commodore 64 game of Battle for Cronos, Deathflood Dungeon of Doom, and devolution has made available the Commodore 64 game of 'Shipwrecked' via the ka-plus.pl website. A game in which you take on the role of a crew commander leading eight astronauts on a mission to Mars. To coincide with this news, Saberman has done a video of this rather unique survival/strategy game by Windigo Productions!

Burger Time - An Arcade like conversion for the Commodore Amiga 500 by JOTD [FINAL VERSION]

Some more Amiga news for you all, as we've just been given the heads up, that JOTD who was behind great conversions such as Moon Patrol, Donkey Kong, Super Bagman, Galaxian500, Pooyan, Super Xevious, and the upcoming Bad Dudes vs DragonNinja, has now turned his attention to the 1982 game of Burger Time. A new Amiga conversion which was originally released back in the day for the Intellivision, Apple II, Atari 2600, TI-99/4A, Commodore 64, ColecoVision and many others. Jogos 80 em: Cadê os Artigos - A ZX Spectrum Arcade game from Teknamic Software

Something for everyone this week, and to continue the 8bit fun. I've recently been informed of a new ZX Spectrum that's worth checking out called Jogos 80 em: Cadê os Artigos by Teknamic Software. A new game in which playing as Eduardo Luccas or Marcus Garrett, you must collect special items and chase down the eight rebellious editors of the Jogos 80 magazine across several Brazilian states to convince them to hand over their articles. In light of this news, provided below is further information about the game as well as some gameplay footage.

A Beat 'em up platformer is in the works by Basement Ape for the Amiga

A bit of a short news story for this one, as trawling through Facebook, we've found out through Earok who created the Scorpion Engine, that Basement Ape is working on what looks to be a new beat 'em up platformer for the Commodore Amiga, using yes you guessed it, the Scorpion Engine. While there is very little to go on, and the game doesn't even have a name yet, you can at least check out the early footage below, and the details from Earok himself.

Kye - A C64 port of Colin Garbutt's puzzle game from 1992 [UPDATE & Commodore Plus/4]

Another challenging puzzler has graced our C64 screens today, as thanks to Saberman letting us know through Facebook, he has told us that if you head on over to the itch.io website linked below, you can download the latest release of 'Kye' by cobbpg ; A C64 port of Colin Garbutt's puzzle game from 1992, Kye. SkillTeam - Another Sokoban game has appeared, and this time it's for the Amstrad CPC

With another double heads up from both Xenomorph and Xyphoe, we've been told if you like the classic 1980's game of Sokoban. Then David Programa has you covered with the new Amstrad CPC game of 'SkillTeam'. A game which is not only based on the mechanics of the famous Sokoban, but according to the developer, is a remade for the Amstrad CPC (464/664/6128) from the ZX Spectrum. Crystal Kingdom Dizzy 2025 - Long awaited Dizzy redux arrives on the ZX Spectrum 128k!

Dizzy fans it's time to really celebrate Dizzy in a really big way, as a very special Dizzy redux of ' Crystal Kingdom Dizzy ' on the ZX Spectrum, has only moments ago just appeared in our news feed. The original CKD was first released in 1992 on a multitude of systems in a completely different graphical pallet than we were used to and some say worse than most of the other 8-bit Dizzy games of the time. But now that is all about to change, as this ZX Spectrum version looks to be the best 8-bit styled version yet!

Wings of Fear - A top scrolling World War 1 Shoot 'em up from Roar Tjørhom is coming to the Amiga [DEMO UPDATE]


There's nothing more satisfying than playing top down scrolling shoot 'em ups, games I remember fondly stand out such as the fantastic classic Tyrian 2000, or the many list of Arcade titles running through home emulation or a well designed cabinet. Well thanks to a heads up from the developer, we've been told at some point soon, Roar Tjørhom will be releasing a demo of his little shoot 'em up game for the Commodore Amiga called "Wings of Fear". Poltergeist Hellschool - Another C64 SEUCK Compo 2025 entry, and in this one you throw books at ghosts!

Looking through the latest TND SEUCK Compo 2025 entries to see if there's anything new to play, and we've just found out, that Rodrigo Yeowtch, who is a newcomer to the SEUCK competition, has entered his new Commodore 64 game of 'Poltergeist Hellschool'. A game in which playing as Toshiba, you must take out ghosts and bullies that have been possessed by evil, with only your books in hand! Fish Tycoon - Lets go fishing in this new Commodore 64 game from Tooizzi

Something for everyone this week and it continues with the latest release of the Fishing game of ' Fish Tycoon ' by Tooizzi. Fancy playing not one but TWO ZX Spectrum games released by Bitmagine Studio? Then come and check out Bubble in Trouble and Driar released through itch io. Whereas in one game you play as Bobbly Bubble that has screwed up and must traverse through 26 colorful rooms without getting popped, in another game which was originally created for NES in 2012 by Stefan Adolfsson & David Eriksson, you must help Driar collect all the stars in each level to move on to the next.

BioMenace Remastered - A remaster of Apogee Software's action platformer is coming to Steam via Rigel Gameworks

Apogee Software released some great games in the 90's, games such as Monster Bash, Bio Menace and even our personal favorite Duke Nukem. Well one game that's going to get the remaster treatment, and a game that many of us still remember to this day, is the 90's game of 'BioMenace'. Yes indeed for those who loved playing this game back in the 90's, will pleased to know that Rigel Gameworks, a small independent game development team, will be bringing to Steam 'BioMenace Remastered' as of Q4 2025; an enhanced modern re-release of the 1993 DOS game BioMenace.

Knight on the Moon - A Zelda like game is in development for the NES by kn56k

If you're looking for a new NES game to try and want one to satisfy your retro gaming needs, then look no further than this work in progress Zelda like game of 'Knight on the Moon' by Kn56k. A game which when finished, will not only features 8 directional movement, but there's 6 Large bosses, 5 main "dungeons", puzzle solving , exploration and weapons pickups and hidden secrets. Space Invaders - A C64 conversion of Taito's Space Invaders by LC-Games

We've mentioned many Space Invader variants over the years, from Havie's Blitz Basic version of the game on the Amiga, to our personal favorite from Pink/Abyss called 'Tiny Invaders'. Well yet again we've been sent another version of Space Invaders for you to download and try, and it's LC-Games full C64 conversion of the famous arcade game created by Tomohiro Nishikado in 1978. Vigilante - Neeso Games Sega Master System to Amiga port is still coming [UPDATE]

There's another game you should be keep an eye on as developments progress, and that's Vigilante: A game that was not only released sometime back as a naff port to the Commodore Amiga, but thanks to Neeso Games however, is currently getting a much better port from the Sega Master System version via the Scorpion Engine to the Commodore Amiga! As in the words of the creator "This is my attempt to port Vigilante from Sega Master System to Amiga. Why Vigilante and why Master System? First of all Amiga already has a (poor) Vigilante arcade port, but I prefer the Master System version because it's more colorful and has more personality, more NEESO style".

Toki C64 Remastered gets new footage and it still looks AWESOME [UPDATE]

Toki was an awesome arcade shooter platformer that was released way back in 1989 by a designer by the name of Akira Sakuma for systems such as the NES, Sega Mega Drive, Atari Lynx, Atari ST, Amiga & Commodore 64. In it you played as an enhanced Ape transformed from a Human that could shoot energy balls from his mouth defeating strange creatures and finally an evil Wizard. Well If you remember this truly great game, you'll be pleased to know that at some point in the near future, you'll be able to play a remastered version which is still in development for the C64 by the Remastered Team!

Phantomas en el Museo - Another high quality Amstrad CPC game by The Mojon Twins

We have just been informed by both Saberman and Xenomorph, that The Mojon Twins has released their latest Amstrad CPC game of 'Phantomas en el Museo'.  An Arcade platformer, which isn't just a high quality game in a series of Phantomas titles, but playing as the most famous thief from the 80s, you are sent to retrieve 5 magnificant pieces of art for the museum that has been infested by ghosts and other such nasties. Thunder Bird - A Western themed action shooter by Eleanor Burns for the C64

When it comes to games developed using the SEUCK engine, they are usually Shoot 'em ups that vary in quality, with some feeling a bit boring and rather samey. Thankfully 'Thunder Bird' by Eleanor Burns is an exception. As not only is it a Western themed action six shooter platformer, but you'll have fun blasting different enemies with gun in hand such as snakes and nasty miners. Sir Redford Knights Adventure - A WIP dungeon crawling roguelike for the Commodore Amiga

I was checking the latest releases and came across this pretty damn fine Amiga game that blends a bit of dungeon crawling with some roguelike fun. Soltys - A 1995 DOS point and click adventure game is still coming to the Amiga (AGA)

A weekend heads up for all of our Amiga readers , as we've recently found out through the EAB forums, that Tukinem together with Retronics, is not only still working on bringing the Polish point and click adventure game of 'Sołtys' over to the Commodore Amiga 1200 with an English release date of May 23, 2025. But as of today you can try out the latest demo featuring English, German, Spanish, Italian and Polish subtitles. A game which was originally released by LK Avalon for MS-DOS on May 23, 1995. Hyper Runner - A wicked sci-fi racer for the Amiga by Raster Wizards gets new footage [Outpost Update]

When I was young I used to love playing the very latest in 16bit/32bit racers such as Outrun, Lotus or even XJ220 on the Amiga. It was a time that gave me the feeling of intense speed and near misses without driving a real car and ending up in the local clink. Thankfully if you too like games like that, or even ones with a more science fiction element to them, then make sure to keep an eye on Hyper Runner; An upcoming sci-fi racer for the Commodore Amiga by Raster Wizards that looks even better in this latest footage!

AMIner - An arcade mining game for the Amiga is complete and ready to be enjoyed!


Another announcement has just arrived from Saberman, as he has just told us a previous Amiga game that was teased with demos called 'AMIner', has been updated with a final build of 25.3.30, which features a number of improvements making it a worthy game to play. If you've not heard of this game before, AMiner is an Arcade title that is not only based on a Motherload flash game, but also looks like an inspiration to Mr. Driller Drill Spirits, which was originally released on the Nintendo DS.

Ghosts'n'Goblins - Check out this AGA tease for the Amiga, it looks pretty decent! [UPDATE]

In 1985 Capcom released one of the greatest side scrolling platform game series we have ever known. It featured a knight, creepy enemies and was rather difficult to the point of frustration. The game I am talking about is none other than ' Ghosts 'N Goblins ', the first game in the Ghosts 'n Goblins franchise. A game which appeared on systems such as the Amstrad, C64 and ZX Spectrum. Well if you played this game, you'll be interested to know that as of today, Skyzoo73 has made available the first demo of an AGA edition for the Amiga. As in his words "I created this to see how GnG could be on the Amiga by breaking free from the limitations of the Amiga 500 classic"

Zookeeper 1 & 2 - A Commodore 64 match up game series released by Vector5 Games! [UPDATE]

Vector5 Games who was behind titles such as Space Station 23, Laserscape, Jump Out, and our personal favorite Santa's Workout has recently released a new Commodore 64 game of 'Zookeeper'. A Columns/Match 3 style of game that has you matching the required amount of animals in a Zoo to complete the level. Frogger RX - An Arcade-like version of Frogger for the ZX Spectrum is finally here!

When I was but a youngster I just loved playing the 1981 Arcade game of Frogger by Konami. It had loads of charm, great gameplay for kids and it really made you feel for the safety of those little green frogs as they hopped their way across a busy road, then across a river of logs and Crocodiles to get to the other side. So to get an update from happycodingzx, that he has released the final version of 'Frogger RX', which is basically an Arcade-like version of Frogger for the ZX Spectrum, I just had tell everyone about it here on IndieRetroNews.

OpenLara - A proof of concept 'Tomb Raider' for the Commodore Amiga

BSzili is certainly no stranger to the Amiga scene, as not only did he release the Amiga port of Blake Stone Aliens of Gold, but there was also ports done of Exhumed / Powerslave, Wolfenstein 3D, BLOOD and even my personal favourite Shadow Warrior. Well it looks as if BSzili isn't done with the Amiga scene just yet, as he has released a proof of concept 'Tomb Raider' for the Commodore Amiga called 'OpenLara'. Although don't get too excited for a finished product any time soon, as in his words "This took me a few days. No sound, no full game, no warranty. I put it out there as a call to action: if anyone would be interested in helping out with the rasterizer let me know"

The Tale - A new CRPG with PETSCII graphics for the Plus/4 by Synergy

Another Plus/4 announcement of which RPG genre fans might enjoy reading about, is the fact that Synergy has released the Ultima like CPRG of The Tale for the Commodore Plus/4. A full-fledged entry in the BASIC category of the Commodore Plus/4 játékfejlesztői verseny Plus/4 GameDev competition . A game that features rather large PETSCII graphics during the story. Bonsai Quest - Fight to protect your legacy in this new ZX Spectrum game by JuanGM
