Wiz - Quest for the Magic Lantern - A charming Amiga AGA game gets an ABrugsch review!

While the last few years have seen a plethora of new Amiga games released, few if any have come from established industry veterans that created games back in the day. But today sees the release of Wiz from Mutation Software and long-time Amiga head Adrian Cummings. Creator of original titles such as Cyberpunks, Tin Toy, Doodlebug and more. Here we take a good look at the new release, which if it’s successful, may pave the way for more Amiga releases.

Fit For A King - NES style retro Tudor RPG Out now

Ever wanted to be King of England? Fancy changing the whole church just so you can marry who you want? Want it in a NES style RPG format but on your PC? itch.io download and steam keys too? Then Fit For A King is probably right down your Tudor alley.

Small Saga - Charming mouse game aims for a Kickstarter success

Not many RPG's have mice and their compatriots as the main characters for an RPG and this one has them set in the sewers of London so in fact has two points not seen in many (any?) other RPG's but Jeremy Noghani has started work on exactly that. With well drawn visuals and a thoughtful story, Jeremy hopes to raise £33000 to allow him to complete the project full time.

NEScape! - Another new cart release on NES launches kickstarter

Oh you lucky NES fans. Just when we've had one amazing NES game deliver it's kickstarter physical carts, well now, just like busses, along comes another brilliant NES indie game looking to raise funds for a cart production run. NEScape! is a timed puzzle game in the style of an escape room and the puzzles are certainly taxing.

Micro Mages - New NES platformer hits the stores

Kickstarter has been the launch platform for many retro system games for a while now, and the latest to get the treatment is Morphcat Games' Micro Mages. A spectacular looking 4-player NES title (with a multi-tap) that manages to squeeze every ounce of performance out of the 8-bit platform to create one of the best looking games I've ever seen on the system.

Another World Survival - Pico-8 Demake of Another world with a twist.

Pico-8 is a wonderful platform for de-makes of classic games and now it's Another World turn (Out of this world in some countries) to get the treatment!

Tube Runner - Pico-8 gets a tube racer with a wicked soundtrack!

Here's a treat for the Pico-8 crowd. Tube runner is, as you may have guessed, a tube racer in multi-coloured vector square tubes. Tube Runner gives not just a great impression of speed but also a cracking sountrack to boot.

TinyPi Pro preview - Kickstarter campaign - Less than 44 hours to go!

For the last couple of weeks I've been playing with an early version of TinyPi Pro. A fully fledged Raspberry Pi zero based gaming handheld not much bigger than a couple of boxes of matches. It's the smallest raspberry pi gaming device possible with the casing barely bigger than the Pi Zero footprint itself. It's listed by its creator over on kickstarter, but can such a tiny device be a capable retro gaming device?

Mawilo Studio Launches with a Lysium: Stardiver teaser trailer

New 16-bit style Metroidvania game from the makers of the Construct Metroidvania Game Kit? YES PLEASE! Only a teaser trailer released so far but the announcement comes in the form of a new joint effort in the form of Mawilo game studio between   and if their combined previous efforts are anything to go by, this will be something to watch out for

Infested - An NES style graphic adventure

In the 8-bit days, the adventure games that came before the animated style made popular by Lucasarts SCUMM games (Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island) were much simpler affairs. In a lot of cases barely more than text adventures but with added still pictures to help you visualize the room you just walked into. Infested is a NES style adventure game for PC and Mac which apes this adventure game transition time and looks great while doing it!

Starquake Amiga port from ST Finally Lands! First Look

For whatever reason, there's a whole swathe of titles that got releases on the Atari ST back in the day, but not on the Amiga. Given the platforms similarities you'd think a port would be a no brainer. indeed, many games just got simple ports from the base ST version with almost no enhancement for the Amiga version. But some games just never even got that treatment. Fortunately there have been efforts in recent years to put that right and actually make these games playable on the Amiga. This week it's the turn of Starquake to get the limelight.

Spaceman Splorf: Planet of Doom - Pico-8 port of Pondsoft's C64 casual game

One of the most common uses for the Pico-8 game creation tool is for people to re-make classic games from the 8-bit era using P8's differently limited set of constraints, or to DE-make more modern games from 16-bit and later platforms. But Spaceman Splorf: Planet of Doom is something slightly different... it's a port of a modern release on C64 so it actually represents a true port, made at around the same time as the original, and it's really well done!

Comanche 1/2 - A technically marvellous Pico-8 heli-sim

For our third installment of "What's new in Pico-8" we have a treat. Would you believe someone has created a full voxel terrain engine in the diminutive fantasy console? Well someone has and unsurprisingly it was user electricgryphon, with a de-make/fantasy prequel to the venerable Comanche series of helicopter sims.

Tomb of G'Nir - A Pico-8 platformer of epic hardness

Pico-8 is not without an abundant supply of platform games, being that it was made almost specifically to make them. Celeste was one of the first and has served as the basis for many since as it's usually a new Pico-8 users foray into modifying a game engine. In the second pico-8 roundup feature, Tomb of G'nir takes hat model and shifts it up a gear.. or ten!

Syctek - A Pico-8 arcade cabinet shooter

In the first of three "What's New in Pico-8" roundup features we have Syctek - A simple to play, hard to master addictive vertical SHMUP. Designed for an arcade cabinet and meant to spawn hi-score rivalry among you and your friends.
