Castle Defender - A fabulous tower defense Atari 8bit game shown at the Abbuc software contest.
Train 2 wasn't the only game shown off at the Abbuc software contest this month, as searching through the relevant forums, we've come across a rather eye opening defender game called ' Castle Defender ' developed by MatoSimi. Now this game was originally a BBC Micro title, but MatoSimi in light of the competition, has converted the game over so others at some point can be play this castle defense style game on their Atari XL/XE.
Castle Defender - BBC Micro's only tower defence game gets a release
We rarely feature BBC Micro games, but today's announcement is an exception, as thanks to a heads up by @ahope1 there's a new BBC Micro game in town and it's called ' Castle Defender ' developed by ChrisB. Available as a disk based BBC Micro B/B+ and Master system file, this game puts you in control as the defender of a castle, you must use defensive towers to protect your castle from attack and keep your health up at all times!
Defence - A brand new Amstrad CPC game by Shining features a classy soundtrack!
We get so many homebrew games it's really nice that developers change the genre slightly and they aren't all platformers and shooters. This is especially true of Shining's new Amstrad CPC disk based game ' Defence ', which is free to download and play and also available as a rather nice physical personalized disk edition with lovely cover, manual and soundtrack on Vinyl-CDR including digital edition. If you enjoy Tower defense games then read on as this is exactly that!
Mars Commando - Retro style tower defence-like is hard as nails!
Ok, so I totally made up "tower defence-like" but the truth is that this little flash game isn't totally like other TD games. Sure, you have advancing enemies that need to be repelled and you have a base that needs to be defended (shaped like a tower no less!) but there are a couple of quirks that make Mars Commando stand out.
Build&Battle - Turn based tower defense in final days of crowdfund
German solo developer Jens Bolanz AKA funtraum is putting together a turn-based, tower defense game but with RTS elements thrown in for good measure. The indiegogo campaign is in its last few days though, so he'll need some 11th hour help to get to his goal of just $6000
Fort Meow - A Catastrophic physics-based tower defence game
Developed by RhysD, Fort Meow is a physics based tower defence game mixed up with a little bit of adventure. In this cartoony style game that's currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign you play as Nia, a little girl that will have her holiday at her Grandparent's house turned up side down by cats!
The Loot Castle - PC based tower defence with an interesting take on the genre
Developed by Steven Colling, The Loot Castle is offering an interesting twist on tower defence games. Instead of the tried and tested formula of having a bunch of units to place to hinder the advancing enemy, you indirectly control a set of skeletons occupying various rooms in your castle that are tasked with fending off the advancing knight attack. The big difference from traditional tower defence mechanisms though is control via setting up skill trees.
Fire with Fire - Tower defence game gets a Kickstarter campaign!
It looks as if another tower defence game is about to take center stage and that is the awesome looking Fire with Fire, by Skull Skill Studios. Currently going through a Kickstarter Campaign, Fire with Fire turns the genre on it's head by adding in an offensive twist that features not just a great art style but also looks incredibly intense.
Build & Battle - A new take on the Tower Defence Genre
I for one don't usually enjoy tower defence games, so for that style of game to appeal to me it's got to be something special. But today my interest was given a prod when I saw Build & Battle, a turn based tower defence game with strategy elements that is currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign.

20 Waves - A new take on the Tower Defence genre and it's FREE
Although I'm not a fan of Tower Defence games (it's not my style), 20 Waves by Colin Lane does change the genre slightly and offers a lot of fun in a freely playable browser based game. But what makes this game so different from the others? Well factor in that it's not top down and it's 2D based, but turrets, force fields, and walls need to be placed against the oncoming waves from the sides to defend your mining operation. It's that simple!
Captain Drexx - Brand New 128K tape game from CRONOSOFT
Cronosoft a Uk based game publisher has just released a fantastic new 128k only ZX Spectrum game on tape format. Captain drexx is a tower defence game that really shows what the little black box of delights can still do!
AI-Conflict - A Tower Defense game with a unique idea
Although I'm not a fan of Tower Defense games, I'm more of an RPG kinda guy it's nice to see developers taking a different approach to the Tower Defense genre. And that's exactly what BabyRaptor ( Minh ) from Vietnam has done with AI-Conflict! Sure it's pretty similar in terms of gun placement but this game has a unique feature in it's AI methods. Each Tower can be set up with different AI features, up to 6 in fact and this affects how the turret works. According to the developer : the slots can be combined with each other like "AND", "OR", the player can utilize each tower strong point, while limit their weak point. Thus AI-Conflict has a certain appeal to it and will add a more strategic and tactical set up when dealing with the many waves of enemies you will encounter. Considering this game is free and developed by one guy, I'm actually impressed, so check it out!
