Arkagis Revolution - Mode 7-like shooter available for the Sega Mega Drive


If you have a Sega Genesis or Sega Mega Drive, there's a cool game that you might be interested in. As trawling through our Facebook updates and thanks to Milo letting us know, we've come across a game called 'Arkagis Revolution ' by Sik. This game according to the press kit, is a new action game for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive with mode-7 like rotation. You play as Lyn, a pilot from the rebels in the Martian nation of Arkagis, in an attempt to free Arkagis from the control of the United Space Colonies (USC).

Planet Balls - Save your balls in this new C64 game by AGPX


Even more C64 games to get through now, as thanks to another heads up by Saberman, we've been told AGPX has released the new game of 'Planet Balls'; a puzzle/arcade game in which you must save peaceful balls that once lived under the guidance of their King, from the evil Dark Cube that has made them all prisoners. Save the balls, save the King Ball and restore peace to this rather strange land.

Freaky Fish DX - An enhanced version of an enjoyable C64 game gets a release


Another C64 game to be shouted about and one I think you'll enjoy, is the enhanced version of the 2018 game 'Freaky Fish'. This game which we mentioned previously as in development, is now available to download and play as 'Freaky Fish DX'; a deluxe update of the 2018 14th place Reset64 4k Craptastic competition version, that features a completely rewritten game engine, new graphics, bonus levels, original music and more, all designed by Design Chaos!

GOLD RUSH - Sequel to KEYSTONE KAPERS is coming to the Atari 2600 and C64

Great news Atari 2600 and C64 owners as thanks to Per Ola letting us know, we have found out that the in development game of ' Gold Rush ' is coming to the Atari 2600 and C64. What makes this news rather special isn't just the fact that this is the sequel to the great Atari 2600 game Keystone Kapers, but the Atari 2600 version is being developed by Dan Kitchen, and the C64 version is being developed by Antonio Savona and team; the same team who were also behind the C64 versions of Fix It Felix Jr and Chopper Command.

Cuphead Game & Watch - A gaming tribute to classic Game and Watch handhelds


The 1980's Game and Watch Handheld is back in fashion, especially with a multitude of games released harking back to that great era with games such as Donkey Kong Jr Game and Watch, Parachute, Fire, Baby Monkey Alba, and yes even Hayesmaker's rather cool Mario's Cement Factory for the C64! But now as a bit of an eye opener (it caught our attention), is the release of Cuphead Game and Watch; A fan tribute to the 2017 hit game of Cuphead, but instead designed in a Game and Watch style.

Dragon Soul - A new C64 game from 1941 and a half creator TheReaperUK


TheReaperUK has been busy creating games lately, making games such as 1941 and a Half, 1942 and a Half, Dome Base 64 Alien Edition, F1-Dodge, Keiko's Adventure HardCore and Metal Blob Bill. Well now he's back with another game this time teamed up with Andrew Fisher, as today he has announced the release of Dragon Soul; a new C64, TheC64Maxi and C64Mini shoot em up, featuring a Dragon, lots of enemies and collectable power ups!

Pharaoh: A New Era - A remake of the 1999 city builder 'Pharaoh' is coming!


Well this came as a complete surprise to us and to be honest I'm very excited for it, as if you remember playing the great strategy city builders of Pharaoh and the expansion Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile by Sierra Entertainment. You'll be overjoyed to learn that Triskell Interactive with publishing by Dotemu, will be remaking the game as a full graphical overhaul including 50 missions and over 100 gameplay hours and calling it Pharaoh: A New Era. To coincide with this news, a new trailer has been released showing the new intro, some gameplay, and that gorgeous soundtrack.

RESHOOT PROXIMA III - Amiga blaster from RESHOOT R creator gets a gamescom 2020 trailer


While many of you are still banging away on the keyboard or pushing the joystick in multiple directions playing the latest awesome release of Tiny Bobble. There's another game that might be worth keeping an eye on throughout the months ahead, and that's Richard Löwenstein and team's upcoming scrolling shoot em up of 'RESHOOT PROXIMA III'; the next wave blasting Amiga game from the same creator who also made the rather awesome shoot em up of 'RESHOOT R'.

Iridium - A rather cool inspiration of Uridium gets a Windows release


A long time ago Hewson Consultants made great games for old retro computers such as the fantastic Uridium, Paradroid, Cybernoid, Exolon, Nebulus and many more were just some of the games they released that many of us have played and enjoyed. Well if you loved playing Uridium and want to play a game that's inspired by that classic but blasting its way on to modern systems, then you might be interested in playing 'Iridium'; an eagerly awaited retro inspired shooter that was released just this week by Nebula Design.

Masters of the Universe - A Barbarian Cartoon remake on the Pico-8 (Browser Playable)


Well this came as a complete surprise considering we wouldn't have found it without trawling through the Gamejolt Website, but we've just come across a new remake of Barbarian for the Pico-8; a new game which turns the classic game that many of still love to this day, into a remake of Masters of the Universe! Basically the head chopping game that was released in the late 80's is now playable with a classic cartoon theme with many of the enemies you must fight as He-Man himself!

Welcome to 'Flying Saucers', the latest version of a Defender style game that is now considered as fully playable on the C64!

DreadStar - A cool retro styled Windows/MAC Shoot em up is coming to Steam this October


Growing up there was nothing more satisfying than playing top down scrolling shoot em ups such as the fantastic classic Tyrian 2000, or the many list of Arcade titles running through MAME. Well thanks to another heads up from the developer, we've been told the game that we mentioned before as 'DreadStar' by AugmentedIrreality, will be released as of this October via Steam... A demo will also be available to try out during the Steam Autumn Games Festival.

Simon's Quest Rebitten - A seriously cool PC fan remake of Konami’s Castlevania 2


Castlevania is certainly a game worth mentioning on Indie Retro News, especially with games mentioned such as the Castlevania 30th anniversary NES facelift, Intellivision, and even the incredible Castlevania Spectral Interlude on the ZX Spectrum. Well today's news is something special indeed, as thanks to a heads up from DSOGaming, we've been told Edward Findlay has finally released his free fan remake of Konami’s Castlevania 2 on the PC(Win), called Simon’s Quest Rebitten!

JetPac RX - A Modified/Remastered ZX version of a hit Ultimate Play the Game classic!


Along time ago, 1983 to be exact, Ultimate Play The Game released the famous game Jetpac for the ZX Spectrum and Vic-20, with the BBC Micro version released later in 1984. It star'd the legendary character Jetman, on a mission to rebuild a rocket in order to explore other planets while also defending himself from Aliens with his powerful laser. It was and still is an incredible game that has since mentioned again, but this time as a modded/remastered ZX Spectrum version by the name of 'JetPac RX'.

Granny's Teeth 2020 - This Granny is no slouch in this upcoming C64 game by Richard and Saul Cross


Are you looking for the latest updates in new C64 games then you've come to the right place! As we've just found out via Facebook, that Richard of TND and Saul Cross, is working on a brand new version of the C64 game called ' Granny's Teeth '. This game which is due to be released at some point soon for free, puts you in control of a rather speedy Granny as she must traverse dangerous levels to reach her teeth in a jar.

Adam is Me - A lovely looking game that's worth playing on your Atari XL/XE


Here on Indie Retro News we do love writing about the Atari XL/XE, especially with cool games being mentioned such as Screaming Wings, Galaga and even the upcoming port of Wonder Boy. AtomiCat - An enjoyable speccy game with a playable Cat!


Seeing as it's a new week and it's time for some gaming announcements, here's one everyone should try if they have a ZX Spectrum, is Ariel Endaraue's latest ZX Spectrum game of 'AtomiCat'.  This game created by Ariel Endaraues, with additional coding by GreenWeb Sevilla and Music by Trevin Hughes. Is a brand new platformer, that was created with the MK1 engine of the Mojon Twins, for the MK1 contest with Retromaniac

Sonic The Hedgehog on the SNES looks seriously cool!


In the early 90's I had the pleasure of playing the mind blowing platformer Sonic the Hedgehog on both the Sega Megadrive and Sega Master System. A game by Sega which featured a ring collecting blue hedgehog that could spin, run, jump and roll about at the fastest of speeds in a battle against the main antagonist Doctor Eggman, plus a number of other menacing enemies throughout each level. Now I'm sure many of you remember playing this fantastic game and probably still playing it to this day, but what you probably didn't know that as of today you can download an early look at an in development Sonic The Hedgehog engine which is being created for the SNES by TiagoSC.

Batboy - Na Na Na Na BatBoy,a new game for your ZX Spectrum!


We've had loads of ZX Spectrum games these last few weeks, from Last Train to Tranz-Central, to Coloco and even Road Trippin. But one game that has caught our attention mixing it up with a Gameboy style running on the ZX Spectrum, is Antonio J. Pérez's new ZX Spectrum game of 'Batboy'; a game that was developed using not just the Mojon Twins MK1 engine, but Sergio thEpOpE's FX utility, TZX Turbo Loading by Javier Peña and SevenUp, WYZTracker, ZX-Paintbrush.

Tiny Bobble - An Arcade quality port of Bubble Bobble, gets an Amiga beta (HOT NEWS!)


As we said before, one of the most played games of all time. Bubble Bobble has infuriated and thrilled us in equal measure on our home computers since its release around the year of 1987 to 1989. Its appeal captures all age groups, and the fun is doubled with a brother, sister or friend to play in two player mode. So why is this game getting another mention on IRN? Well glorious news has appeared in our inbox, as today Pink with Fade1 has just released the first BETA of the upcoming Amiga remaster of Bubble Bobble called 'Tiny Bobble".

A new Amiga game is being developed and it looks fun!


Another heads up today, as thanks to Per Ola and an update from the developer in the RedPill Game Creator group, we've been told Third_Knight aka Czorny, is working on a brand new Amiga game that is being developed using the RedPill Software. Although the game doesn't yet have a title, the creator has released a video update showing an early glimpse of the game while it is still at a work in progress state.

Jet Set Willy - Classic Jet Set Willy as an inspiration is coming to the NES


Now here's a game I think most of our readers would have played or heard of throughout the years, is Jet Set Willy. A highly enjoyable yet difficult platform game originally written by Matthew Smith and published by Software Projects for many home computers such as the ZX Spectrum in 1984. If you remember this game and have a NES, you'll be overjoyed to learn that sdm2 is working on a NES inspiration which is coming to your classic retro console at some point in the near future.

Quest For Glory I - A classic Sierra Fantasy Adventure gets a DarkwyndPT review


For part of an Adventure Sierra retrospective, I decided to do something different. Instead of reviewing another typical graphic adventure, I decided to review a mix of two of my favourite genres (graphic adventure and RPG): Quest for Glory (originally known as Hero’s Quest). Hero’s Quest: So You Want to Be a Hero is a RPG/graphic adventure originally released in 1989 for DOS, a year later for Atari ST and Amiga and in 1991 for the PC-98.

BoxyMoxy - A High quality C64 puzzle game has been published by RGCD


Although I'm not usually a fan of puzzle games, even though I do feature them on occasion. We've just found out from RGCD via their own Facebook group, that they have finally published the high quality puzzle game for the C64 called BoxyMoxy. This game according to Antonio Savona who had also worked on L’abbaye Des Morts, Planet Golf and Chopper Command, has said that he has coded coded the game with Lobo and Aldo Chiummo, and the game features full on unforgiving puzzle gameplay!

The Pit - An enjoyable Boulder Dash Plus/4 clone from the same creator behind Icicle Works (Doug Turner)


Once again another retro heads up from Saberman, as we've just been told that Doug Turner
with music by C., Luca (Luca) and Mike (MIK), has released the Boulder Dash clone of 'The Pit' for the Commodore Plus/4. This game available to download below, is an enhanced project development from an original game by the same creator behind Icicle Works; an enjoyable game that was released way back in 1985 for the same system.

Last Train to Tranz-Central - Ride the Trains in this new ZX Spectrum game by Quantum Sheep


Day 4 of the heatwave and the first game to be mentioned on Indie Retro News, is Quantum Sheep's double part ZX Spectrum game of ' Last Train to Tranz-Central '. This game available as a two part download, with part 1 being free and part 2 priced at 1.99. Is a game in which you play as Maurice The Space Cowboy, and must stop AI's gone rouge that are sending far off Space Trains hurtling into Planets and killing much of the population.

Bad Moon Rising - A brand new game via psytronik is coming to the C64


Sadly there wont be much writing done today and through the weekend, as the weather is way too hot and the humidity is too much giving us sleepless nights. But still, seeing as we don't want to miss out on the really good stuff, we've just been told via Facebook, that Psytronik will be releasing a brand new game for the C64 called Bad Moon Rising; a game that looks to be multi genre, featuring both Shoot em up and platforming action.

MW ULTRA - Covert Bitops creators of Hessian announces a great C64 release published by Protovision


In 2016 Covert Bitops released the brilliant action adventure game of ' Hessian ' for the C64; a game in which we said could've been the game of the year, spanning over 667 screens with high detail, challenging situations and enemies with skilled AI that must either be avoided or shot at. Fast forward to this week however and the same team behind that game has recently announced the release of their eagerly waited game of MW ULTRA; A reinterpretation / reboot of the first Metal Warrior game utilising the full potential of the C64!

GoADF - A fantastic piece of Amiga software gets an update!


The Amiga community goes from strength to strength, sporting not just new games but applications that give the Amiga an extra boost in usability. We've certainly featured enough of them and more especially with our good friend Amiga Bill on Twitch! But today's news is something special for users of new software, as thanks to a heads up by 'Bitplan Krzysztof Donat'. We've just been told that he has launched the latest version of GoADF:  a fabulous program that does more than just support ADF files (Floppy Files)

Atarenium Falcon - A new Amiga game demo by Last Minute Creations


The next game to be mentioned and yet another Amiga title announced by us in the last couple of weeks, is a new demo for an in development Amiga game called ' Atarenium Falcon '. This game developed by Last Minute Creations, pits you against the Amigans Empire and their treacherous leader Great Miner. You must reclaim as much coal as possible stolen from Atari Tribe by the Amigans to win the game.
