Another World is coming to the C64, Very early gameplay preview!

Another World also known as Out Of This World was released across more than a dozen platforms since its 1991 debut, attaining a cult status among critics and sophisticated gamers alike for its cinematic effects in graphics, sound and cut scenes. Well after the shocking announcement of the game coming to the C64 with an early teaser, just days after that announcement, Eric Majikeyric has shown off the first gameplay preview giving us a better glimpse of the work in progress title!

Buccaneers - A demo for an upcoming Amstrad game by Big Bang Games!


The last game to be mentioned and a rather interesting looking game at that, especially for all you Amstrad players, as trawling through the latest Amstrad updates, we've come across a newish game with a pirate theme called 'Buccaneers'. Now before you get too excited thinking this is going to be like Sid's Pirates, it isn't, but instead this game looks to be an enjoyable platformer with plenty of kicking and punching action by Big Bang Games.

ScummVM v2.2.0 - The best way to play Adventure classics reaches new heights!

If you have a great collection of DOS or Windows based classic point and click adventure games, then the latest update of ScummVM 2.2.0 will do you nicely. I for one have it installed and use it for all my classic adventure games. But what is ScummVM, I hear you ask? ScummVM is a very special program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games in the compatibility list with extra added nifty features, provided you already have the main files.

Magica - A rather lovely Amstrad game is now available for the Amiga


Reidrac ( Juan J Martinez ) who is one of our favorite homebrew developers on an 8bit system has appeared in our news feeds again, but this time instead of another 8bit homebrew, he has announced that his lovely game of 'Magica' which was available for the Amstrad, has now been released for the Amiga by Andy Noble. This game from the Amstrad description, is a multi level single screen arcade game, with similar stun and hit mechanics to that of other great games such as Bubble Bobble and Snow Bros, while also having the developers own unique blend of great graphics and fun for all gameplay.

Dread - Doom clone on the Amiga, John Tsakiris joins the team!


The Amiga always has a pride of place on Indie Retro News, sporting so many new games, it almost feels at times like the Amiga is back in stores. Well we've got another great news announcement for you today, as if you remember our previous article regarding the work in progress project by KK/Altair to bring Dread to the Amiga 500, which is a clone of DOOM. Then as of these last few months John Tsakiris from Pixelglass has joined the team duo to bring new graphics to the project!

Wonderful Dizzy is coming to the ZX Spectrum NEXT and ZX Spectrum 128k!


Dizzy will always get a full feature on Indie Retro News, from new fan games, to those that have been found lost in the back of The Oliver Twins loft. Thankfully Dizzy still lives on in the hearts of many, as if you've got a ZX Spectrum NEXT and 128K and are a Dizzy fan like myself, you'll be overjoyed to learn that Dizzy's newest adventure of Wonderful Dizzy will be coming to the ZX Spectrum NEXT and ZX Spectrum 128K in the near future.

Brick Rick - A brand new Amstrad game from Rescuing Orc, Magica and Golden Tail creator Juan(Reidrac)


The last post of the day and one I think is pretty awesome, especially for those of you with an Amstrad or Amstrad emulator at hand during this cold and dank day. As we've just found out through Twitter, that Juan J. Martínez, creator of those great games such as Night Knight, The Dawn of Kernel, Rescuing Orc, Magica and Golden Tail, has released his latest game of ' Brick Rick ' for the Amstrad CPC 464 or above.

Ryane McLaine - A new ZX Spectrum inspired game from Jetpack Jaxx dev!


Last year we announced the release of a seriously cool looking ZX Spectrum inspired game called 'Jetpack Jaxx'; A game that was not only released for PC and Android owners, but was described as having a ZX Flavour which was completely free to play, and sporting some rather cool action gameplay. Well if you played it and wanted more, you'll be pleased learn that as from this month the developer has released his latest retro inspired game called Ryane McLaine!

The legend of flaming sword - Early Alpha of an upcoming Amiga platformer

September has certainly been jam packed with Amiga news, games mentioned such as Green Thang, Dodgy Rocks, The Shadows of Sergoth(Demo), and even our personal favorite Monkey Lad. Well now another game is going to get a feature, and that's Yoz Montana's Amiga platformer of 'The Legend of Flaming Sword'; a game developed using the RedPill Game Engine that is being coded for both Amiga ECS and Amiga AGA Systems.

Lemmings - An unreleased and very unfinished version available as a preview on the Plus/4


During the early part of 2016, it was the 25th Anniversary of DMA Design's ' Lemmings '. A game published by Psygnosis way back in the early 90's for the Amiga, Atari ST and PC and regarded by many as one of the greatest games ever and featured many blue, green haired Lemmings that could be blown up, ripped apart and dropped from the highest of points before they even hope to reach that exit. So why is this great game getting a mention? Well as of this month you can play a preview of an unreleased version of Lemmings, which has been made available for the Commodore plus/4 that sadly will never be finished.

Zeta Wing - Rejoice as Sarah Jane Avory's C64 Shoot em up has arrived!


Another HOT NEWS story for the C64 community as we've just been told by Sarah Jane Avory, that she has finally released the wicked looking C64 Shoot em up ' Zeta Wing ', which can be downloaded for $3.99. This game of which we have featured many times before prior to today's release, is an eagerly awaited top scrolling shooter developed by the ex-SEGA game developer and author: Sarah Jane Avory who is also working on a fabulous RPG for the C64 called ' Briley Witch Chronicles '.

Atic Atac - Ultimate Play the Game classic on the Amstrad gets a new beta video


For those that loved playing the Ultimate Play the Game classics, will certainly feel right at home on Indie Retro News. Especially as homebrew developers and graphical artists had taken it upon themselves to convert/port many of those great games over to systems that didn't have the luxury of the original in the first place. Games such as Atic Atac being ported over to the C64 by Steven Day, Saul Cross and Tomcat from the BBC Micro or ZX Spectrum is certainly one eye opener we've mentioned this year.

Melkhior's Mansion - In Dev Ultimate Play the Game inspired 'Atic Atac' is coming to the ZX Spectrum 128k


Remember when we gave you the heads up that the Ultimate Play the Game's famous classic Atic Atac, was not only being remade for the PC but it was also being remade for the ZX Spectrum Next? Well there's great news for today, as after checking their tweeter feed we've come across a new update regarding their in dev remake of Melkhior's Mansion, which as of now has also been announced as coming to the ZX Spectrum 128K.

Popeye - Classic Arcade game is coming to the Atari 7800 as an Arcade conversion


Now here's a blast from the past, as we've just been informed that the classic Arcade game of 'Popeye', is coming to the Atari 7800 as an Arcade conversion by SeeSaw(Darryl Guenther). In a similar vein to Donkey Kong albeit not as good, you play as Popeye and must collect hearts, musical notes and the letters H-E-L-P that the lovable character Olive drops from the top of the screen. But be warned, just like the cartoon, Brutus will get in your way with the help of the bad Sea Hag!

Granny's Teeth 2020 - This Granny is no slouch in this new C64 game by Richard and Saul Cross


Are you looking for the latest updates in new C64 games then you've come to the right place! As we've just found out by trawling the CSDb database, that Richard of TND and Saul Cross, have released a brand new 2020 version of the C64 game called ' Granny's Teeth '; a game that is available to download for free, which puts you in control of a rather speedy Granny as she must traverse dangerous levels to reach her teeth in a jar.

A lovely Tetris clone on the Amstrad CPC


Oh joy of joys, if you loved the 1984 game of Tetris, you'll be pleased to know that as of today you can download and play the very latest Tetris clone that has been released for the Amstrad. This game which was announced on the CPCWikeu forums and as a heads up by Saberman, is a lovely Tetris style game that doesn't just feature great animation, but lovely Amstrad detail and classic gameplay we've loved since the era of the original.

StarSector - A sci-fi open-world game reviewed by Cola Powered Gamer


StarSector is probably one of the best sci-fi open-world games ever created. Even if you don’t consider it one of the best, it’s still one complex game and a real hidden gem. Initially called “Starfarer”, Starsector is being developed by Fractal Softworks and is still technically in development since it was initially released on April 26, 2013. It’s being developed by a small group of people, and the amount of dedication and attention to detail is amazing. Unlike most games that are still in development, StarSector feels more like a finished product and is only being more and more polished.

A Pig Quest - This upcoming C64 game looks so damn awesome!

Green Thang - An unreleased action platformer sees the light of day for the Amiga! (Prototype)


If the recently announced Theme Park game coming to the C64 wasn't enough to whet your appetite, then how about this piece of news sent to us by Saberman. As we've just been told that our good friends 'Games That Weren't' have released a playable prototype of the unreleased Amiga game 'Green Thang'; a game that was meant to be released to compete and surpass games such as Zool and B.O.B but never saw the light of day... Until now.

Funfair Inc - A Bullfrog Theme Park inspiration is coming to the C64!


Well this came as a complete surprise to us, and one I'm now eager to play when it gets a release later this year, as thanks to Saberman telling us, we've been told Arlasoft is working on a Theme Park inspired game called 'Funfair Inc' for the C64. Yes indeed if like me you loved playing the classic Bullfrog title released on multi systems back in the 90's, a game featuring all the puking, building and ride creation you could ever want, will be pleased to learn you will be able to play a Theme Park management sim on your C64 as of December 2020.

USA Zombie Apocalypse - Run for your lives, Zombies on your Vectrex


We haven't featured the Vectrex for awhile, so to change all that here's a new announcement that's appeared in our inbox, AR Vectrex has announced the release of their Zombie fest game of ' USA Zombie Apocalypse " for the Vectrex System; a game in which you must blast away deadly enemies such as Bats and Zombies through multiple parts of American states. Think of it as House of the Dead on your Vectrex!

ZetaWing - Another Shoot em up incoming for the C64 from Sarah Jane Avory


While many of you are still eagerly awaiting Sarah Jane Avory's upcoming RPG of 'Briley Witch Chronicles', and of course the brilliant looking Shoot em up of 'Soul Force'. You may be interested to know that the ex-SEGA game developer and author, has just released the latest footage for the upcoming C64 game ' ZetaWing '; a new game which is yet another Shoot em up from the same creator who also designed both Neutron and the Christmas themed game called ' Santron '.

Alter Ego - Popular ZX Spectrum game gets ported to the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis


In 2011 RetroSouls released the rather popular game of ' Alter Ego ' for the ZX Spectrum, a game which was later ported over to the NES, PC, Android and yes even the Amiga. However there was a system that this game would've been just as good on, and that was the Sega Mega Drive. Well today after an email by a good friend of ours, we've just learnt that RetroSouls has now released the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis version which has been Remastered and programmed with C language powered by SGDK.

Dodgy Rocks - A new Amiga game from Nivrig requiring OCS/ECS 1Mb


If Dungeon Crawlers are not your thing and you fancy more of an Arcade experience, then how about this game which was released just recently via Aminet and Itch.io for the Amiga it's 'Dodgy Rocks'; A heads up by Per Ola of a new Amiga game from Nivrig, in which you must avoid as many rocks as possible for an ever high score. Basically as the creator says " Dodge, dodge, dodge, dodge and ... uh ... dodge! "

GBJAM 8 - Lots of great games submitted to the latest GameBoy Jam!


What a great early part of the week for retro games, as during the latest GBJAM 8, over 200 games were submitted for voting to be a successful entry in the GameBoy themed Jam. A jam in which gamers from around the world were given the opportunity to create any game they wish, as long as it looked like a Game Boy game. In fact it was such a great competition that we even had the pleasure of playing the rather cool game of 'GBNOID' ; a game inspired by the classic Cybernoid by Raffaele Cecco!

Quick War C64 - A new C64 SEUCK game from Vox Videogame and TND


Trawling through the latest retro games on itch.io looking for a decent C64 game to play, and one that may be of interest to our readers, is Vox Videogame's C64 Shoot em up of ' Quick War C64 '. This game according to The New Dimension, is a rather unusual Arcade blaster in which you must save Terra2 "and defend the music and their notes and yes even the human race.

Treasure Island Dizzy - Another classic The Oliver Twins game now on the Commodore Plus/4

I have always been a massive Dizzy fan, not only playing every Dizzy game ever released since 1987 by the famous Oliver Twins but also featuring all of the fan games, the Atari XL/XE conversion by Irgendwer and Fandal, and the more recent Dizzy 1 conversion by Dave (Ulysses777) over to the Commodore Plus/4. Thankfully the conversions haven't ended there, as thanks to Yolkfolk letting us know, we've been told Dave (Ulysses777) has now released the Commodore Plus/4 conversion of Treasure Island Dizzy.

Monkey Lad - Welcome to an Alex Kidd demo inspiration on the Commodore Amiga


In 1987 Sega released the great side-scrolling platform game ' Alex Kidd ' for the Sega Master System console. Although it was first released in Japan in 1986 but internationally in 1987, it was one of the most well known games as it was also built into most Master System II's. For anyone that has played the rather enjoyable original, will be pleased to know as an updated test to the Scorpion Engine on the Amiga, Earok has shown off what the engine can do with a short playable demo which he is calling 'Monkey Lad'.

CPC Soccer Community Edition - A rather cool Football/Soccer game for your Amstrad!

 

I personally am not a fan of Football games, pretty much the only game I have ever enjoyed was the classic Amiga game of Sensible Soccer. Still there is one game that caught my eye recently and did sound pretty decent even if it is Football/Soccer related, and that's voxeltower's Amstrad game of ' CPC Soccer Community Edition ' ; an exciting 8-bit game that works on both the Amstrad CPC 464 and the 6128.

iGame v2 - A well known Amiga game launcher gets a new public beta


If you have an Amiga with an internal CF drive or any other way of playing whdload games such as through Emulation like WinUAE, then this may be the software update that your Amiga thanks you for. Although there are other OS utilities to play Amiga games such as AG-launch and X-Bench, iGame was one of the most practical of game launchers during any CF install. So if you remember it, especially if you've installed ClassicWB, then you'll be pleased to know iGame has reached version 2.0 beta 6!

Hired Sword 2 - A racy C64 CRPG will be coming to the Atari ST towards the end of this year


Double Sided Games are certainly no strangers to Indie Retro News, releasing great games such as L'abbaye Des Morts, Vegetables Deluxe and even Realms of Quest V. Well now after a heads up by the same publishers, they have now told us the racy C64 game of 'Hired Sword 2', will be released on the Atari ST;  A game that tells of the story of a Mercanary who after squandering all his coin and libations, has fallen in love with a seductive elf with long flowing hair. The problem is she's gone missing, and your quest is to find her however dangerous it may be!

Crystal Caves HD - A remaster of Apogee Software's Crystal Caves is coming soon

Apogee Software certainly released some great games in the 90's, games such as Monster Bash, Bio Menace and even our personal favorite Duke Nukem. Well one game that's getting the remastered treatment and a game that many of us still remember to this day, is the 1991 game 'Crystal Caves'. Yes indeed for those who loved playing this game back in the day, will pleased to know that Apogee Software will be remastering the game with all new graphics and a new episode as 'Crystal Caves HD'

MedievaLands The Shadow of Yserbius - Open sourced remake of a classic multiplayer Dungeon Crawler


If you're looking for something lightly different on your Windows or Mac based system, then you've come to the right place! As thanks to a heads up in our Dungeon Crawling Facebook group, we've been told Zane has released the latest version of the open sourced remake of 'MedievaLands'; an old school multiplayer dungeon crawler with grid-based movement, turn-based combat, and many puzzles and quests to solve in an expansive dungeon that goes deep into the earth and into the timeless beyond.

Restless Andre - A new ZX Spectrum game with 19 different levels


Moving away from the C64 and looking towards the ZX Spectrum for more 8bit enjoyment, as we've recently been informed by Saberman, that Jaime Grilo has released the English version of the Arcade style game of Restless Andre. Developed for the 48k and 128k(with music), made using AGDX and AGDMusicizer II, you play as André and must collect various types of gems scattered throughout various scenarios as he did not want to refuse a challenge.

Miner 2019er - An upcoming C64 game via Psytronik as a prequel to a classic 1983 title!


Even more C64 games to get through now, as Psytronik via Facebook has just announced the upcoming C64 game of "Miner 2019er ". This game which is coming soon to a C64 near you, is a fantastic prequel to the legendary classic of Miner 2049er; a game that was originally released way back in 1983 by Bill Hogue as a game that also set new standards for computer games due to its arcade quality concerning the action, paired with excellent sound and outstanding graphics(c64 wiki).

Funky Monkey Kid Game & Watch - Another Game & Watch inspiration comes to the ZX Spectrum.

We've featured so many Game & Watch games lately, you'd think they were bringing that handheld back into retail circulation. Sadly that's not happening, but if you want to play another Game & Watch inspiration, you can now check out Funky Monkey Kid Game & Watch for the ZX Spectrum and Spectrum Next. This game developed by Bootlegger is his own take on the classic Donkey Kong Jr game, which was originally released way back in 1982.

Utopia - A great sci-fi strategy game gets a DarkwyndPT review


Space: the final frontier“. I’m sure everyone knows this quote. Outer space has always been the ultimate destination of any population, to create new civilisations in new, alien worlds. So much so that space colony management sims could almost be considered its own sci-fi subgenre. So, today we’ll be reviewing Utopia: The Creation of a Nation.

Utopia: The Creation of a Nation is a managerial/strategy game developed by Celestial Software and published by Gremlin. It was originally released in 1991 for the Amiga and Atari ST. It was released the following year for DOS and in 1993, it was ported for the SNES/Super Famicom in the US and Japan. In 1994, it was released for the Super Nintendo in the EU and in 1995, it was re-released for DOS in CD-ROM format.

Kyd Cadet - The Eyeburx Plee - A 2014 ZX Spectrum game has been ported over to the Amstrad CPC

Moving away from the C64 and Indie games, we now look towards the Amstrad for our homebrew goodness. As thanks to Tom letting us know through our Facebook retro gaming group, we've been told that Hagedasch has released his new Amstrad game called ' Kyd Cadet '; A game that was originally released on the ZX Spectrum in 2014, which has now been ported over to the Amstrad.

Saboteur SiO - Long awaited follow up by Clive Townsend is now on Steam!


The original Saboteur is a bit legendary. Not only was it one of the best, and most expansive, games on the Speccy, C64 and CPC, but it also had the most balls to the wall awesome cover art literally ever! But now after much excitement in the retro community from those who loved the classic Saboteur and as a heads up by Preston. Will be pleased to learn that the long awaited sequel called Saboteur SiO, has finally been released on Steam for modern systems such as Windows and Mac.

Vaporum Lockdown - Prequel to an award winning steampunk dungeon crawler releases September 15th


While many of us are still waiting to play the upcoming C64 version of the Eye of the Beholder, there's one PC dungeon crawler you might be interested in playing, and that's the upcoming steampunk crawler of Vaporum:Lockdown. This game which we have mentioned before, is a prequel to the award-winning game of Vaporum by Fatbot Games; a new grid based crawler that is set for release as of September 15th!
