It was only just the other day that we featured Mutation Software's latest creation of 'Cyberpunks 2'; An upcoming Amiga game as a sequel to Cyberpunks; a top down shooter that was also released for the Amiga developed by Mutation and published by Core Design way back in 1993. Well if you're hoping for some new updates for this upcoming sequel, then you are in luck! As Saberman has just done a video of the demo for Cyberpunks 2. A demo which is going to be released along side the main game come 5th May 2023 for Amiga AGA and CD32.
Cursed Demons Of Wallachia - A Vampiric game released for the ZX Spectrum by Furillo Productions
If you're looking for a new game to play over the weekend, then we have just been told by Saberman, that if you head on over to the link below, you can play Furillo Productions latest ZX Spectrum game of 'Cursed Demons Of Wallachia'. A new game in which the creators have said is a colourful platformer game homage to the classic Hammer's Dracula horror movies for the ZX Spectrum 48k! Zeta Wing II - Sarah Jane Avory's C64 Parallax Shoot 'em up sequel has been released!
Another cool news story for the C64 community as we've just been told by both Sarah Jane Avory and Saberman, that the sequel to Zeta Wing which is a Indie Retro News 2020 Game of the Year, has been made available to download and play via the itch io website below. This game of which we have featured many times before, is a fabulous top scrolling shooter developed by the ex-SEGA game developer and author: Sarah Jane Avory who also released the incredible GOTY RPG for the C64 called ' Briley Witch Chronicles '.
Scorch - A Scorched Earth clone for the Atari XL/XE gets a single player final version.
This game might not look like much, with its bare backgrounds and tiny coloured objects, but this is actually a new Atari XL/XE release that comes across very much like Scorched Tanks on the Amiga and the MS-DOS game Scorched Earth. Developed by a team of people such as Pecus, Pirx, Miker, Adam, Bocianu, Emkay and Fox, Scorch isn't just a single player game with up to 6 AI players, but your ultimate goal is to wipe out your opponent by working out the correct trajectory that your Baby Missile flies through the air and hits dead on target!
Rogue Declan: Zero (Amiga) - Nivrig is developing another addictive looking game!
Here's a great news story for you all, especially if you have a Commodore Amiga close by, as we've recently been informed via our good friend Nivrig Games , who also designed the highly enjoyable game of 'Turbo Tomato'. That at some point in the near future, you'll be able to play Nivrig's newest of creations called 'Rogue Declan : Zero'; an in-development twin stick roguelite shooter for the Amiga! To coincide with this news, there's a new video provided below showing the game in action.
A Blast From The Past - A modern Galaxian remake that looks pretty decent! (Sega Mega Drive WIP too)
Galaxian has appeared on Indie Retro News many times over the years, especially as it is one particular Arcade classic that homebrew developers love making clones of with special effects and bonus power ups. Well here's a news update that is sure to excite those who love playing this game back in the day, as not only can you play what looks to be a very modernized version of Galaxian via Steam, but Happy Cactus Games Limited is also working on a Sega Mega Drive version too!
DJ Puff - A 1990's game published by Codemasters gets a ZX Spectrum enhancement
Ever since the creation of Indie Retro News, we've always tried to keep you up to date on the latest game news, as and when they appear in our inbox. Well here's another 8bit game that many of you will remember, it's 'DJ Puff'! An early 1990's game that was originally released by Codemasters. So why is this game getting a mention? Well thanks to Planet Sinclair and Saberman letting us know, we've been told that R.M has released an enhanced version of DJ Puff for the ZX Spectrum.
LASKA PijÄ™ ActiviÄ™ - A 1st place winner for the ZX Spectrum at Grawitacja 8bit Jam
Another ZX Spectrum game has appeared this week, as we've recently been informed via Saberman through Facebook, that if you head on over to the Grawitacja 8bit Jam page below, you can play Hellboj, Yerzmyey, Kaz, and Utz's new ZX Spectrum game of 'LASKA PijÄ™ ActiviÄ™'; An arcade game in which you need to collect lots of items spread throughout many the levels, while avoiding deadly enemies. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also done a video of the game in action.
International Karate RCX/RC 2023 - Remake and new scenarios by Homesoft for the Atari XL/XE
Yet another Saberman heads up and no not an Amiga, C64 or ZX Spectrum game, is the Atari XL/XE karate remake called ' International Karate RCX/RC 2023 ' by Homesoft; a game which pits you against the computer or another player in a multitude of karate competitions! While details are sparse about this version of the game, from what we've found out is this is a remake with new scenarios for the Atari XL/XE with 130XE memory. In light of this news, Saberman was also kind enough to do a video of the game being played.
Sly Spy (Secret Agent) - An enhanced version of a classic Ocean game for the CPC!
The Amstrad CPC has certainly had its fair share of fun games announced this year, especially with so many available to download such as MR.WONG, Cracky, Renegade Reloaded, and even our personal favourite Revenge of Trasmoz! Well here's another Amstrad news story to keep you company. As Saberman has informed us that Jean-Marie has released an enhanced version of Ocean's classic game of 'Sly Spy (Secret Agent)' for the Amstrad CPC. In light of this news, not only do we have some footage of this enhancement, but we also have some information regarding the changes made to Sly Spy.
CyberPunks 2 is coming 5th May 2023 and it looks very good indeed!
Mutation Software has done rather well over the years, selling a number of copies and digital downloads of their latest game Wiz - Quest for the Magic Lantern; a previously released game that features lovely music, well designed levels and even smooth parallax scrolling. Well fast forward to now and not only can you still purchase the Mutation Gold Compilation, which features updated and remastered versions of Doodlebug, Cyberpunks, Tin Toy, Tommy Gun and Castle Kingdoms for the Amiga CD32. But that same team of Mutation Software has also officially announced the release date of 5th May 2023 for CyberPunks 2 (AGA/CD32).
Zeta Wing II - Sarah Jane Avory's upcoming C64 Parallax Shoot 'em up shown off in new trailer!
Sarah Jane Avory has created some fabulous C64 games throughout the last couple of years, from the amazing Soul Force to Zeta Wing and even Briley Witch Chronicles. Well here we are with another Zeta Wing II news update, as thanks to Per Ola Eriksson contacting us early this morning, he has told us that Sarah has shown off the game in a brand new teaser trailer! A trailer which shows not just the levels you'll be playing through, but also that awesome parallax scrolling and multiple enemy types.
Dungeon and Souls - A dungeon crawling roguelike for your ZX Spectrum
If you have a ZX Spectrum you are sure to like this latest news update, as we've recently been informed by Saberman through Facebook. That HSE has released the Dungeon Crawling Roguelike of 'Dungeon and Souls' for the ZX Spectrum; A soul-like, dungeon crawling role playing game whereby the player explores procedurally generated 5 level dungeons slaying monsters, rooting chests, interacting with (well) NPCs. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also done a video showing the game in action.
PC DOS game Death Rally as an Amiga port by BSzili!
BSzili has been mentioned a number of times on Indie Retro News, as not only did he release the Amiga port of Blake Stone Aliens of Gold, but he also made available Exhumed / Powerslave, Wolfenstein 3D, BLOOD and even my personal favourite Shadow Warrior. Well here are with another BSzili update, as he has now made available for testing, the PC to Amiga port of Death Rally; a top down racing game originally developed by Remedy. A game in which you have to race for the finish line, leaving a trail of burnt rubber and spent brass behind you.
Mad House - A new MSX2 Platformer by Gamecast Entertainment via MSXdev23!
Another MSX news story to keep you company, as thanks to Tom contacting us this morning, we've been told that a brand new game for the MSX2 called 'Mad House', has been made available to download and play. This game developed by Gamecast Entertainment for the MSXDev 23 competition, is an arcade platformer in which you play as a nasty thief and must set out to rob a house! In light of this news, the file hunter was also kind enough to make the game completely playable in your browser!
Tenebra - An atmoshperic 8bit game by Haplo arrives on the Commodore Amiga
Another retro gaming news story for you all, as we've recently been informed by Saberman, that the previously released Amstrad, C64, Plus 4 and ZX Spectrum game of Tenebra by Haplo, is now available for the Commodore Amiga. For those of you who haven't heard of this game before, Tenebra is an atmospheric puzzle game with rogue-like elements that ended up getting a sequel for the C64 called Tenebra 2. To coincide with this news not only has Saberman done a video of Tenebra, but you can purchase it for the Amiga via the itch io page below.
Kick of the Spear - Fast-paced 1 and 2 player fighting game for the Commodore 64
We've featured a number of fighting games on the C64, from the previously previewed Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition to Monstro Giganto. Well here we are with another fighting game mention, as thanks to Saberman who gave us the shout out here on Indie Retro News, we've been told that Magovinna has released the fast paced 1 to 2 player fighting game of Kick of the Spear for the C64. Adventure 1 - A love letter to 'AVVENTURA 1' a fantasy adventure game for the C64
We've mentioned a number of text based adventure games on Indie Retro News, from games such as Venganza and Spooky Adventure, to Knight Orc and Masquerade. But now another game has appeared which will appeal to gamers who like those sort of games, as we've been told by a good friend of ours, that MAT64 has released the text based adventure game of Adventure 1 for the C64; A love letter to 'AVVENTURA 1', which is a fantasy adventure game from back in the day.
NewsStand v1.0.1 - A lovely looking game for your C64 by AGPX and Phobos
What a news story we have for you all this morning, as thanks to a heads up from our good friend Saberman, we've just been informed that AGPX and Phobos has released the latest version of his lovely looking Commodore 64 game of 'NewsStand'; A game that is set in the 80's in which you play as Joseph and must collect money in order to buy cassette tapes with the legendary games for the C64. To coincide with this news update, Saberman has also done a video of the game in action shown below.
SBOT - Yet another ZX Spectrum 128k game to be enjoyed!
The ZX Spectrum goodness just keeps on coming, as thanks to Saberman who has done many of our retro gaming videos throughout the years, he has told us that if you head on over to the xavisan page linked below, you can now download the latest ZX Spectrum 128k game of 'SBOT'; A high quality platformer by xavisan. A game in which you play as a robot and must put a stop to the Martian race that is about to attack the Earth. Karate Champ - A 1980's Arcade fighting game that's coming to the Amiga gets a new WIP update
In the 1980's Data East released the Arcade fighting game of Karate Champ; A game which established and popularized the one-on-one fighting game genre, for which it is considered one of the most influential games of all time. Well fast forward to today and thanks to Saberman giving us the heads up, we've been told JOTD has teased another work in progress update of karate champ VS; An in development Amiga version of this classic Arcade game that was released back in the day for systems such as the Apple II, C64 and the NES.
Jack Dragon - An all new arcade experience for the ZX Spectrum home computer!
Not to be left behind with all the latest Amiga and C64 titles we've featured lately, it's time for the ZX Spectrum to get in on the retro gaming fun, as we've recently found out through Facebook, that PsychicParrot has released a new ZX Spectrum game called 'Jack Dragon'; a game in which you need to collect all of the gem pieces (shown as little round things) to progress to the next level. In light of this news, we have some footage of the game being played below.
Boxx 4 Amiga - The sequel to a great platformer series by Retroguru is finally here!
As an Amiga owner and a fan of homebrew releases I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable Lemming880's platformer ' Boxx 2 ' and ' Boxx 3 ' was on the Amiga system, especially with added bright and bold colourful detail by Koyot1222. Both of these games were developed using backbone and required you the player to collect as many coins as possible, while avoiding deadly traps, killing bad bosses and aiming to reach the exit to complete the level.. So why are we mentioning these games again? Well check out the latest update below and you'll find out why :).
MR. WONG - A new Amstrad CPC clone of a 1984 game called Mr. Wong's Loopy Laundry
If you have an Amstrad CPC and looking for another game to play through this weekend, then thanks to a heads up via Saberman and XeNoMoRPH, we've been told that Fitosoft has released a new game for the Amstrad CPC called 'MR WONG'; a clone/remake of a 1984 arcade platformer which was originally released by Artic Computing Ltd called Mr. Wong's Loopy Laundry. In light of this news, not only do we have some more information about the game, but we also have two gameplay videos from Saberman and XeNoMoRPH.
BONE DRY - A new side scrolling action/adventure with RPG elements in development for the C64.
While many of you have enjoyed playing KnifeGrinder's recent release of Lester; a high quality metroid-vania for the C64. It might be worth keeping an eye on KnifeGrinder's other game that has just been announced, and it's called 'BONE DRY'; An upcoming side scrolling action/adventure with RPG elements in development for the C64. A game which is also inspired by great Sega Genesis classics like Monster World III & IV. To coincide with this news story, the creator has also shown off some very early footage of the game which can be viewed below.
Snake Vs Bomb 2 - A fun for all the family game by The New Dimension for the C64
Most of the games we feature are generally focused more towards Teenagers and more specifically Adults, with a high level of difficulty and intense gameplay (Although I did have an Amstrad at 7 years old!). Today's game however is focused more towards families, as we've just been told by Saberman that The New Dimension has released the Commodore 64 game of 'Snake Vs Bomb 2'. A fun for all the family game in which you need to travel as far and as fast as you can, while collecting fruit and avoiding any bombs on the road!
BruxĂłlico - A high quality ZX Spectrum game from Amaweks that's worth checking out!
If you are looking for a new game to play throughout the weekend on your ZX Spectrum or through emulation, whereby you can kick the *bleep* out of many different enemies, then it might be worth downloading the latest release of Paulo Andrés(Amaweks) brand new ZX Spectrum game of Bruxólico. A rather unique game which we have featured before when it was first announced and is inspired by the folklore of Florianópolis, in particular the work of the artists Franklin Cascaes and Peninha.
Lost Realms of Murkasada Episode 2 - The second episode in the run up to the C64 game Crimson Twilight by Arkanix Labs
Another surprising release today is the second episode of a Commodore 64 game called 'Lost Realms Murkasada' by Arkanix Labs; the second episode of a series of companion games up until the official release of the main game Crimson Twilight. This game available completely free through the CSdb site, is a short albeit enjoyable game, which can be completed in an evening as a companion adventure/rpg-lite using the world of their CRPG Crimson Twilight.
Super Xevious 1200 - JOTD's Arcade to Commodore Amiga 1200 conversion is finally here!
Earlier this week we featured JOTD's in development Arcade to Amiga conversion of Xevious : A game that was originally released in the Arcades by Namco and then ported to other home computers. Well if you haven't played the game, as you were waiting for the final version to appear, then you are in luck! As JOTD has finally announced that both Xevious and Super Xevious have been released for the Commodore Amiga. As in the words of JOTD "published "final" version on itch. For the floppy release, Damien did a menu to start various configurations, including Super Xevious. Now matches 60Hz speed"
La Culotte de Zelda - An adaptation of the Zelda classic for the Amstrad CPC Plus
I thought to myself today it's been some time since we had any Zelda style games on Indie Retro News, but thankfully I came across one that doesn't just look like a Zelda game, but it could be the next best thing for any Amstrad Plus owner. Titled as 'La Culotte de Zelda' and created by Zisquier, with graphics by BDCIron, this is going to be an adaptation of "The Legends of Zelda" which came out on the NES, but also nods to "Link To The past" and "Link's Awakening".
Boulder Dash Junior VIII - Yet another C64 Boulder Dash Game for your enjoyment!
Another news story that's worth a mention, as Saberman has just let us know through Facebook, that Raiders of the Lost Empire has released a Junior VIII Scarab School Trip edition of First Star Software's classic game ' Boulder Dash '. This game originally released in 1984 for more computers that we can think of with a multitude of clones and sequels, yet again see's a younger version of Rockford collecting diamonds while avoiding falling boulders, but this time the game is set in ancient Egypt!
ZX Snake - A new game released for the ZX Spectrum by Menyiques
Snake originally came about in the mid 1970's and over the years has seen many different versions and variations on different systems. In fact it is that style of game we are going to mention today, as thanks to Saberman letting us know via Facebook. We've been told you can now play the ZX Spectrum game of ' ZX SNAKE '; a brand new game which the developer says is his submission to the Retro Programmers Inside (RPI) and Phaze101 Game Jam.
Hop To The Top - A new Easter game coded in AMOS for the Commodore Amiga
The games just keep on coming and more so Amiga ones, as Per-Ola Eriksson has contacted us about a rather lovely looking game called Hop To The Top that has been released for the Commodore Amiga by RobSmithDev. Developed in AMOS with the full coding shown via the Youtube video below, you play as a cute little bunny that must jump and eat many easter egg you can. The higher your bunny jumps, the higher your score. In light of this news, Per Ola Eriksson has also shown the game being played in his video provided.
Pitman 2 - A colourful puzzler that is coming to the ColecoVision May 2023! (Preorder Today!)
Another news announcement and yet again another upcoming release that will challenge your brains possibly to frustration, is Under4Mhz's new Puzzler called Pitman II: A colorful COLECOVISION game in which you need to collect all the diamonds in each of the many levels, while also trying not to be crushed by boulders, or getting stuck in a hole. So think of a puzzle game that has some similarities to Boulder Dash albeit with a lot more thinking required!
Super Xevious 1200 - In dev Arcade game for the Commodore Amiga 1200 via JOTD gets a super update!
