Grubz (Worms Clone) Preview for C64!

Last month we gave you the heads up over a retro remade dungeon crawling experience in the form of "Eye of the Beholder" for C64. But there's another game that may appeal to a much wider audience that's also being remade and it's Team 17's "Worms" or as the developers are calling it Grubz. Developed by Singular back in March 2004 as an early preview, this homebrew version looks visually impressive as both a modern game as an 8-bit and bringing back that Worms game play style. So far only Forever 5 has been released which features 3 levels, c64/keyboard/joystick players, and bazooka only. The full game will be distributed by Protovision when it's ready.

Fantasy Soundtrack Project - Skyrim gets a much needed musical overhaul

Don't get me wrong I love Skyrim. I love playing it and modding it, and even though it is an AAA title, there are many modders out there working hard pushing the details to new heights. Yes we are Indie/Retro related, but modders are independent and many of them get our respect. But the mod that blew me away out of all of them was "The Fantasy Soundtrack Project". A soundtrack, musical overhaul by aceeqmodding that I'd highly recommend for all of you Skyrim owners. "Fantasy Soundtrack Project" provides 700+ minutes (10+ hours) of new music for TESV: Skyirm. 195+ orchestral and instrumental fantasy/epic music tracks for exploring, towns, taverns and castles.

Tower57 - 16-bit Arcade game with Alien Breed and The Chaos Engine inspirations

Every so often there's a very special game that really catches my eye, and Tower57 by Benitosub and artist Cyangmou looks to be high up on that scale. It is the arcade love child of Alien Breed and Chaos Engine with fantastic 16-bit styled pixel art and interactive and destructive environments. According to the developer the game is set in a dystopian future in which humanity has found refuge in self-sufficient mega towers and a government conspiring to keep its citizens subjugated. Love Dungeon - A new Amiga take on Bruce Lee by jimmy2x2x

Jimmy2x2x of EAB contacted me late last night let me know about his latest Amiga release that's a new twist on the Bruce Lee game. Unlike the great original 1983/4 game where you collected lanterns to progress, in this one hearts must be collected to complete the level. Every heart must be collected in a set time limit to completion and if you beat the World Records you can unlock Monsters to fight and extra game modes. You can certainly see the inspirations as even the short clip music brings back memories of a Bruce Lee hit, it's just a shame the music doesn't play throughout the game itself.

As it features new lands to discover such as sea, snow, sand, fields and mountains where you can create, build, dig, harvest trade and much much more. SkySaga really is full of charm and immersive detail that I actually preferred over Minecraft. I just hope they put in a bigger FOV and Mouse Acceleration settings.

Cube and Me - Dungeoneering with your tamagotchi Kickstarter final days

Back in the mid '90s tamagotchi's were all the rage. Hardly anyone had mobile phones, and mobile gaming stagnation meant lugging around a brick sized device, plus a backpack of game cartridges and a years supply of AA batteries... But the tamagotchi was literally keychain sized, had a small display and a couple of soft buttons and was the first mainstream pet simulator. you literally could not move in 1996 for someone saying "hang on I have feed my virtual pet..." as it yelped at them like some demented toddler. Cube and Me by Yui Jegnan is trying to fuse that with dungeoneering and roguelike elements for a very cute Anime-style kickstarter.

Rocket Ranger Reloaded - A Kickstarter success for Cinemaware

After a very close shave, with only hours to spare, Cinemaware has pushed through a Kickstarter success for their latest overhauled remake of "Rocket Ranger Reloaded". A flash port of the mobile game, you are a big bad wolf of Werewolf Park and must eat as many people as you can. Be careful though, don't get seen and let the witnesses escape as if it ends up too much, you'll have the army after you. A fantastic game indeed, full of fun , cool music and a great art style! Probably the best flash game we've played this month!

DaXX - Retro musical tribute !

As many of you know we are very fond of game retro remixes, especially from the Amstrad, Amiga, C64 or ZX Spectrum. So today's post is a tribute to the great daXX; a legend in the remix 64 scene who creates both Amiga and C64 remixes. Bert Brüggemann (Aka daXX) was born in 1976 in Germany and even at the early age of 6 he was creating music from a keyboard, then as he got older the C64 and the Amiga. Releasing over 500 Amiga mods and remixes, with Soundtracker and Protracker I'd rate him one of the best re-mixers of our time. So rather than post every track he's ever done, I'll be posting his best work from Youtube...... Enjoy!
